Michael Johnson

Dec. 5, 1948 — May 29, 2012

Michael Johnson died May 29 at his Sonora home. He was 63.

Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 5, 1948, in Hayward, the son of Wayne Johnson and June (Hodgkins) Johnson.

He was a 30-year resident of Sonora, where he was a barber and owned Hair We Are for 30 years. He also produced music and concerts in Sonora for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his father, Wayne Johnson, of San Lorenzo; a son, Dana Johnson, of Sonora; two brothers, Rodney Shinko, of San Lorenzo, and Wayne Johnson, of Redding; a sister, Patti, address not available; and a sister, Darlene, last name not available, of Iowa.

A celebration of life will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 23, in the Sierra Building of the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. 

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Herald ‘Hal’ Wills

June 27, 1927 — May 30, 2012

Herald “Hal” Wills died May 30 at his home in Sonora. He was 84.

Mr. Wills was born in Portland, Ore, the son of Lula (Taylor) Wills and Lloyd Wills.  He was raised in Nampa, Idaho, where he graduated from high school. 

He attended college in Colorado and served in the U.S. Navy. He then lived in San Leandro until moving to Sonora in 1997.

He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 40 years. He spent the last five years of his career in El Paso, Texas, working as a train conductor.

His interests included hunting and fishing with his father-in-law, Larry Eveleth, football season and making yearly trips to Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two younger brothers. He was 3 years old when his father died.

Mr. Wills is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joanne Wills, of Sonora; his stepson and daughter-in-law, Jim and Renee Comphel, of Twain Harte; his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Marty Baker, of Tuolumne; two nieces and two nephews.

No services are planned at this time. 

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Esther (Klasen) Walde

Sept. 25, 1919 — May 31, 2012

Esther (Klasen) Walde, of Sonora, died May 31, at at her Sonora home. She was 92.

Mrs. Walde was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Madison, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Jenny Klasen.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna McGinnes, of Milwaukie, Ore., Carole Brekenridge, of Meadow Vista in Placer County, and Colleen Tillay, of Walla Walla, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A donation may be made in her name to the Sonora Seventh-day Adventist Church Veterans Day Fund, 40 N. Forest Road, Sonora. 

Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson is handling arrangements.

HARRINGTON — Marjorie Harrington, 94, of Sonora, died Sunday at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

LUEPKE — Patricia Luepke, 60, of Sonora, died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

RADOVICH — Barbara Radovich, 83, of Sonora, died Monday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

STOLLER — Former Tuolumne County resident Gary Stoller, 65, died Saturday in an airplane crash in Elmore County, Idaho. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Columbia City Cemetery. A reception will follow at Angelo’s Hall in Columbia. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be sent to the Junior Angus Scholarship Fund, 22318 Sirocco Court, Caldwell, ID 83607.

WARRICK — John Warrick, 93, of Jamestown, died Tuesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
