Judith A. ‘Jude’ (Bloom) Davis
July 12, 1950 — July 26, 2012
Sonora resident Judith A. “Jude” (Bloom) Davis died Thursday at her home. She was 62.
Mrs. Davis was born in San Francisco.
She moved to Sonora in 1979 and owned the Sonora Trading Post and Sonora Mattress Outlet for 33 years.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing, exercising and cooking.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Carmen and Joseph Bloom.
She is survived by her boyfriend, Don Vennicomb, of Sonora; her children and their spouses, Phillip and Valerie Davis, Cindy and Bronco Rodin, Jeff and Sheree Davis, Julie and Jim Oliver, Chrissy Davis, and Matt Rickert, all of Sonora; and grandchildren, Noelle Davis, Nick Durbin, Carissa Davis, Justin Durbin, Jake Davis, Clayton Davis, Joe Davis, Grace Davis and Wyatt Davis.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday as Dambacher Mountain Memorial Cemetery.

William John Riedel
Sept. 29, 1933 — July 23, 2012
Murphys resident William John Riedel died July 23 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was 78.
He was born in Murphys to parents, Buster and Rose Riedel.
He co-owned and operated the Murphys Central Market with his parents for more than 30 years.
He was a former chief, board member, and firefighter for the Murphys Fire Department. He was a member of the Ophir Bear Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 33, Native Sons of the Golden West, the former Calaveras County School Board, Murphys Sanitary District, Union Public Utility District and the Angels Gun Club.
Mr. Riedel was preceded in death by his parents in 2000; and his sister, Wilma Pecchenino, in 2007.
He is survived by his children, Hayden Riedel and his wife, Melissa, of Vallecito, Will Riedel, of Murphys, and Wendy Glessman, and her husband, George, of Murphys; grandchildren, Caitlin and Cheyenne Johnson; former wives, Carole Whisman and Barbara Edwards; and close friend, Florence Hocking.
A donation in his name may be made to the Murphys Fire Fighters Association, P.O. Box 1260, Murphys, CA 95247.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Angels Gun Club in Angels Camp.
A private internment will be held at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.

Betty Jane (Meister) Walters
June 23, 1923 — July 14, 2012
San Andreas resident Betty Jane (Meister) Walters died July at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital in San Andreas. She was 89.
Mrs. Walters was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Ruth (Meyer) and Louis F. Meister.
She graduated from the College of William and Mary and received her master’s degree from Hillyer College, now the University of Hartford. She taught at Sharon Center School, in Connecticut, and at Valley Springs Elementary for many years.
She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in San Andreas.
In addition of her parents, Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by her first husband, Hezekieh Goodwin; her second husband, John J. “Julian” Walters; twin sons, Hezekiah E. and Louis F. Goodwin.
She is survived by her step-children, John J. Walters Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Millerton, N.Y., Julianna Tygart and her husband, Robert, of Torrington, Conn.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in San Andreas, with a reception will follow at the fellowship hall.

Mildred Annette ‘Millie’ (Goode) Wood
July 8, 1922 – July 1, 2012
Sonora resident Mildred Annette “Millie” (Goode) Wood died July 1 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 89.
Mrs. Wood was born in Oolitic, Ind.
She worked at a factory to support herself during college and eventually earned her teaching credential. Her first teaching job was at a one-room schoolhouse in rural Indiana. She was a reading specialist and taught junior high, English and literature for 35 years until her retirement.
She moved to Sonora in 2004 due to failing health and to be nearer to her daughter.
She enjoyed crocheting, singing hymns and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ralph Wood, in January; and brothers, Frank Goode and Charles Goode.
She is survived by her children, Ralph Charles Wood Jr., of Michigan, Stephen Douglas Wood, of Texas, John Rodger Wood, of New Hampshire, and Rebecca Sue Wood, of Sonora; her sister, Merle Brendler; grandchildren, Jonathan Wood, Gennivieve Wood, Cory Wood, William Wood, Heather DiCicchio, Chad Wood and Nicole Rochelle; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and burial will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, where she will be placed next to her husband, who was a staff sergeant in the Air Force.
