Mary (Peterson) Hall

Columbia resident Mary (Peterson) Hall died July 9 at her home. She was 89.
Mrs. Hall was born Mary Peterson in Geneva, Minn., to Hans and Eunice Peterson.
After completing nursing school, she moved from Minnesota to California to attend University of California, Berkeley. She also studied at the California College of the Arts in Oakland.
Mrs. Hall and her husband, Wilson Hall, an engineer with General Electric Co., moved to Tuolumne County from Oakland 55 years ago
She co-owned a pottery store, the Pot Shop, in Columbia in the early 1960s.
Mrs. Hall was the first pottery instructor at Columbia College, where she taught in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
She later taught special education and third grade for a short time at Curtis Creek Elementary School.
She enjoyed animals and was involved in animal rescue.
Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Hall, in 1967.
She is survived by her children, Maggie Monjare, and her husband, Mike, of Modesto, and Alan, Kenneth and Douglas Hall, all of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

Genevieve ‘Jenny’ (Uliana) Kuharich
Jan. 17, 1918 — July 21, 2013
Former Tuolumne resident Genevieve “Jenny” (Uliana) Kuharich, died July 21 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. She was 95.
Mrs. Kuharich was born Genevieve Uliana in Melones to Augusta and Ricardo Uliana.
She lived in Tuolumne for 82 years until moving to Modesto 13 years ago.
She enjoyed cooking and reading and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tuolumne.
Mrs. Kuharich was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kuharich, in 1973; her children, JoAnn DeCoster, in 2005; and Gary P. Kuharich, in 2010.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Danny DeCoster, Dawn Groves and Kristi Williams, all of Modesto, and Joseph Kuharich, Melinda Kuharich, Gary Kuharich, and Timothy Kuharich, all of Ketchikan, Alaska; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service has been held.

Shawn Christopher Usrey
May 26, 1971 — July 18, 2013
Sonora resident Shawn Christopher Usrey died July 18 at his home. He was 42.
Mr. Usrey was born in Monterey to Lana and Ronnie R. Usrey.
The family moved to Ponderosa Hills in Tuolumne when he was 3.
He graduated from Summerville High School in 1989.
He worked as machinist and plummer for a number of years and also owned Mountain Treasures in East Sonora with his mother and stepfather.
He enjoyed basketball, golf and fishing.
Mr. Usrey is survived by his mother and stepfather, Lana and Larry Busby, of Sonora; father and stepmother, Ronnie R. and Joan Usrey, of Seaside; his brother, Ronnie Dee Usrey, and his wife, Elena, of Seaside; niece and nephews, Malia Rose, Cordero and Maxx Usrey, all of Seaside.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Aug. 6 at The Peppery Gar and Brill, 13494 Mono Way, East Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
ERHARDT — Former Sonora resident Frances (Jacobs) Erhardt, 93, of Bakersfield, died July 23 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
HUGHES — Ladena Hughes, 62, of Sonora, died Saturday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
