Janice Kay (Foster) Boone

Dec. 11, 1936 — July 20, 2013

Columbia resident Janice Kay (Foster) Boone died July 20 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 76.

Mrs. Boone was born in Modesto to Earl and Stella Foster.

She was raised in Ripon until her family moved to Sonora when she was 12. 

She was a cheerleader at Sonora High School and graduated in 1954.

Mrs. Boone was a homemaker and raised four children.

She enjoyed playing ping pong and spoons with her family. 

Mrs. Boone was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rebeccah Boone, in 1962; and daughter-in-law, Brandy Boone, in 2010; and her parents-in-law.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Kathy and Vernon Bailey, of Tuolumne, Jerry Jr. and Sue Boone, of Sonora, Tim Robles and Gordon Boone, both of Columbia; grandchildren, Jimmy Dean, of Sacramento, Jessie Dean, of Tuolumne, Rebecca Weist, of Tuolumne, Melissa Weist, of Tuolumne, Christina Robles, of Montana, April Robles, of Sonora, Bridget Bailey and Trevor Bailey, of Tuolumne, Mike Smith and Matt Smith, both of Sonora, and Doug Comer and Christin Comer, both of Columbia; 29 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Judy Foster, of Martinez; former husbands, Jerry Boone, of Sonora, and Gary Robles, of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Columbia Cemetery. 

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Gary Victor Epperson

July 7, 1942 — July 18, 2013

Jamestown resident Gary Victor Epperson died July 18 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He was 71.

Mr. Epperson was born in Yuba City to Gladys Euline and Daniel Nicodemus Epperson.

He moved to Jamestown in 1968 and worked as a land surveyor for 21 years.

He was a member of the Sonora Smokepolers and Seventh-day Adventist Church Pathfinders. He was also a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mr. Epperson enjoyed researching family history and lineage. He also enjoyed the outdoors and spent many summers camping with his family. 

Mr. Epperson was preceded in death by his father, Daniel N. Epperson, in 1995; his mother, Gladys Euline Epperson, in 1987; and brother, Daniel Epperson, in 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Epperson, of Jamestown; his children and their spouses, Victor and Melissa Epperson, of Los Molinos, John and Kathleen Epperson, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Michael Epperson, Ruth Epperson, Darlene Epperson, and Beverly Taber, all of Chico; grandchildren, Tyler Epperson, of Rancho Santa Margarita, Cameron Epperson and Michael Epperson, both of Mount Pleasant, Shawna Epperson, of Chico, and Madelyn Epperson and Mallory Epperson, both of Los Molinos.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 40 N. Forest Road, Sonora.

Frank Ernest Walker

Dec. 10, 1918 — July 22, 2013

Sonora resident Frank Ernest Walker died Monday at Avalon Care Center of Sonora. He was 94.

Mr. Walker was born Long Beach to Frank and Bertha Walker.

He graduated from University of California, Los Angeles, with a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry the late 1930s and worked for Union Oil Refinery in San Pedro for about 20 years.

He later worked as an energy analyst for Lockheed Martin, Stanford Research Institute and TRW Inc.

He earned a master’s degree in business administration while working in the Bay Area.

He and his wife, Mildred Walker, moved to Sonora in 1990 to be closer to family.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Calvin Walker.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mildred Walker, of Sonora; his children and their spouses, Rodger and Barbara Walker, of Sonora, and Carol and Ken Peeler, of Elk Grove; and grandchildren, William Walker, of Sacramento, Eric Walker, of Davis, Sue Peeler, of San Jose, and Keri Peeler, of Tracy. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora.

KUHARICH — Former Sonora resident Genevieve “Genny” Kuharich, 95, died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heuton Memorial Chapel, 400 S. Stewart St., Sonora. Burial will follow at Carters Cemetery, 19042 Cemetery Lane, Tuolumne. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
