Michael John Yurich

Murphys resident Michael John Yurich died Thursday at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas from complications of Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was 55.
Mr. Yurich was born in Detroit, Mich., and grew up in the Santa Cruz. He moved his family to Calaveras County 15 years ago.
He graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, earned an associate’s degree in radiation technology from Los Positas College in Livermore, a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in law from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a master’s of business administration from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master of science in health physics from the University of California, Berkeley.
He retired from a career in radiation technology and worked as a truck driver for 15 years.
He was a member of the Catholic Church and was involved in many ministries throughout his life. He was in the music ministry and sang and played guitar for Masses and special events. He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Men’s Club of Angels Camp and Murphys, Our Lady of the Sierra in Arnold and the Italian Catholic Federation. He taught the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. He was also a youth minister and pro-life activist.
He was instilled as a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He will be buried with a crucifix signed by Bishop Stephen Blaire of Stockton.
Mr. Yurich is survived by his wife 26 years, Maryanne Yurich, of Murphys; son, Matthew Yurich, of Murphys, and his fiancee, Cassie Baylor; daughter, Michelle Yurich, of Murphys; siblings, Kitty Yurich, Jim Yurich, Rick Yurich, and Chris Yurich, all of Santa Cruz; his sisters-in-law, Joann, Lindy, and Christina; aunt Lou Fogo and her husband, Al; and numerous nephews and cousins.
Burial was at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Murphys.
Angels Memorial Chapel is handled arrangements.
Katherine Helena Livezey
Feb. 19, 1943 — July 9, 2012
Valley Springs resident Katherine Helena Livezey died July 9 at home. She was 69.
Mrs. Livezey was born in Orange County and lived there until she moved to Valley Springs in 2002.
She was a member of Good Samaritan Covenant Church in Valley Springs. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing.
Mrs. Livezey was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell Livezey, in 1999.
She is survived her children and their spouses, Velda and Kelly Guthner, of New York, Karen Patrykus, of Georgia, Joanne Livezey, of Valley Springs, and James Livezey, of San Andreas; siblings, Ron Vaughan, of Riverside, Bobby Vaughan, of San Diego, Joyce Mashike, of Valley Springs, Carol Mason, of Riverside, Natra Grimes, of Orange County, and Patricia Anderson, of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Brendon Guthner, of Colorado, Joseph Patrykus, of Georgia, Amanda Patrykus, of Georgia, Kayla Gorczyca, of Georgia, Allen Gorczyca, of Southern California, Melody Gorczyca, of Southern California, Beau Livezey, of Valley Springs, Lora Livezey, of Valley Springs, and Jimmy Livezey, of Montana; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was scheduled today at Good Samaritan Covenant Church in Valley Springs.

YATES — Lois Yates, 100, of Twain Harte, died Tuesday at Oak Terrace Memory Care in Soulsbyville. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
ZIEGENHEIN — A graveside service for Mary Jane Ziegenhien will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora. A potluck at the Sonora Moose Lodge will immediately follow. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
