Don Lucas (Griffin)

June 19, 1914— July 19, 2003

Don Lucas (Griffin) of Soulsbyville died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. He was 89.

A native of Tampico, Ill., Mr. Lucas moved to the Bay area as a young boy and lived for many years in Oakland. He later lived in Reno, Nev., and Sacramento before moving to Soulsbyville about 1 1/2 years ago.

As a young man, he worked in the shipyards, then as a carpet installer for many years. He owned his own carpet business in San Francisco. He was a warehouse foreman before retirement.

He enjoyed his family, professional boxing and was a longtime San Francisco 49er fan, his family said, and he enjoyed sharing a good joke.

Mr. Lucas is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Kerry Thuloweit of Soulsbyville and Linda and Loyal Brummet of Oroville; two stepsons Donald Hollibaugh, and his wife, Melissa, of Saint George, Utah, and Robert Hollibaugh of Nevada; a sister, Betty Simeon of Concord; grandchildren, Kenneth Hollibaugh of Boise, Idaho, Julie Hollibaugh of Arizona, Tami Borja of Spokane, Wash., Becky Egan of New Jersey, Brandi Rudiger of Turlock and Tiffani Bayers of Jamestown; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lucas, a granddaughter, Debbie Presentati, two brothers and three sisters.

No services will be held at his request.

Remembrances can be made to any favorite charity.

East Lawn Mortuary in Sacramento is handling arrangements.

Barbara Carnes

Nov. 20, 1937 — July 22, 2003

Longtime Angels Camp resident Barbara Carnes died Tuesday at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was 65.

She lived in Angels Camp for 18 years.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Larry Carnes of Orland; a son, Ron Byers of Vallecito; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Brian McBerry of San Jose; a stepdaughter, Kim Chambers of Mountain Ranch; seven sisters, Janet Medeiros, Diane Fritzsching, Shirley LeVasseur, Kathy Austin, Sandy Walbert, Karen Crane and Lynne Mabie; three brothers, Dennis, Steve and Patrick Menge; grandchildren, Greg Byers and Meghan and Kyle McBerry; a step-granddaughter, Amber Wakefield; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Byers, and a sister Judith McGilvray.

A service is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at Angels Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Altaville Catholic Cemetery.

F.D. Sweet and Son Mortuary is handling arrangements.

BOLTON — Visitation for Felix Bolton Jr. of Copperopolis, who died Tuesday at a Modesto hospital, will begin with visitation from 12-5 p.m. tomorrow at Heuton Memorial Chapel in Sonora. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.
