David Noel

Oct. 20, 1966 — July 9, 2003

David Noel of Sonora died July 9 in a boating accident in Fresno. He was 36.

Mr. Noel was born in Mountain View and lived in Sonora for four years. He worked as a technical manager for Sierra Steamway Restoration for four years.

His family said he enjoyed fishing, gardening and wrestling.

Mr. Noel is survived by a son, Brian Noel of Sonora; two daughters, Sadi and Susan Noel, both of Kearney, Neb.; his father, Joe Noel of Forbestown, Butte County; a sister, Brenda Noel of Las Vegas, Nev.; and his fiancee, Cat Hogg-Sergeant of Sonora.

His son, David Adam Noel of Nebraska, was killed in the same boating accident as Mr. Noel.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made to the David Noel Benefit Fund, in care of Central California Bank, 229 S. Washington St., Sonora, CA 95370. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.


Mary Rimassa

Feb. 22, 1919 — July 19, 2003

Longtime Sonora resident Georgina Mary Rimassa died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. She was 84.

Mrs. Rimassa was born in Colorado and had lived in Sonora since 1946. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Sonora Emblem Club for many years.

Her family said she enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by a daughter, Patty Hutcheson of Sonora; a granddaughter, Jodie Hickam of San Diego; three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Alex and Cassie Stokes; and a niece, Olga Meletani of Sonora.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvio "Lou" Rimassa, in 2000.

A private graveside inurnment will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

John C. Menzie

Nov. 15, 1928 — July 16, 2003

Former Sonora resident John C. Menzie died Wednesday at a La Mesa hospital. He was 74.

He was born in Canadian, Texas, and lived in Lakeside.

Mr. Menzie was a former dean of instructors at Columbia College. He also had served as president at Ketchikan College in Alaska, and Barstow Community College, and was an instructor at Barstow Community College.

Mr. Menzie was an Army and Navy veteran, and had served in World War II and the Korean War. He had served with Company B, 140th Tank Battalion, in the Army.

He held a doctorate in higher education and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Rotary International.

Mr. Menzie is survived by his wife, Norma S. Menzie of Lakeside; two daughters, Mary Woods of Las Vegas, Nev., and Vanessa Sarnecki of Valencia; two sons, Richard Menzie of Littlerock, Los Angeles County, and John C. Menzie of Camarillo; a stepson, Brett Munsey of Seattle; a brother, Gene Menzie of Nicaragua; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Acheson and Graham Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave., in Riverside. Inurnment will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area No. 4, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., in Riverside.

Lakeside Santee Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.


JUELCH — James Gerald Juelch, 62, of Mountain Ranch died Thursday at a Stockton hospital. Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. today at San Andreas Memorial Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow at San Andreas Chapel. A burial is scheduled at Mountain Ranch Cemetery. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

BALEN — Mabel Balen, 90, of Sonora died Friday at her home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

McKINSEY — Robert McKinsey, 59, of Copperopolis died yesterday at a Sonora hospital. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
