John Allen Haynie
Jan. 8, 1954 — July 6, 2014
John passed peacefully after a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer surrounded by the love of his family and wife, Linda Cross. Father to Jessica, Stefany, step-father to Erin and Chris. Grandfather to Jackson, Liam and Charlotte. Son to Dorothy Haynie Beale and Robert C. Haynie (passed 2013). Brother to five: Robert (passed 1979), Brenda, Joetta, Ruth, and Jim. Friend to many.
He served in the Army with a tour in Vietnam. He moved to Sonora in 1986 where he lived and worked as a carpenter and then general contractor. He was a master carpenter and many homes in Groveland, Yosemite and Sonora have been touched by his handiwork. He also enjoyed his gardens and caring for his chickens. He enjoyed sharing fresh eggs with his neighbors.
A special thank you to those who took time out of their busy schedules to help with his last project (Ron, Steve and Jim), the master bathroom. It’s a thing of beauty. Also, those special friends (Chuck and Carol) who loved and carried him through the tough time. Thank you all!
The celebration of life will be July 20, outdoors at Linda and John’s home, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call for address (209) 532-7592. John wanted a salsa party, so his celebration will contain a nacho bar with as many different salsas as we can come up with. If you knew John, come and share stories, laugh and celebrate with us, for he is now free of cancer and on his final ride.
In lieu of flowers any donations may be made to Hospice of the Sierra in Sonora, Calif.
