Kevin A. Weir

March 20, 1952 — June 26, 2003

Kevin A. Weir of Sonora died Thursday at his residence after a short battle with liver cancer. He was 51.

He was born in Chippewa Falls, Wis. He was born to Julius and Ione Weir and was the middle of three sons. He married his high school sweetheart, Donna Larson, in 1971, and joined the family retail business.

In 1976, Mr. Weir enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic and later opened a chiropractic practice in Sonora. While he was in chiropractic college, his wife gave birth to their only son, Michael. Mr. Weir practiced for several years in Eugene, Ore., and later joined his brother, J. Michael Weir, in practice in Monterey.

Mr. Weir's deep commitment to Jesus Christ and love of family led him and his family to relocate to Sonora in 1993 to secure a Christian education for their son and dedicate themselves to a local church, his family said.

Friends said his caring treatment of his patients and dedication to their health won him the endearment of his patients.

His sense of humor and charisma made him a popular local speaker, his friends said, and he believed strongly in continuing education and attending professional trainings both as a student and a teacher. His friends and family said he had boundless energy and enthusiasm.

He loved cars and collected many in his lifetime.

His last project was the renovation his family's home, a 1940 Tuolumne County ranch estate.

He was a member of the Chapel in the Pines church in Twain Harte, the Sierra Professional Association, California Chiropractic Association and American Chiropractic Association.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Weir of Sonora; a son, Michael Weir of Sonora; his mother, Ione Weir of Sonora; brothers, J. Michael Weir of Monterey and Tim Weir of Raleigh, N.C.; and numerous other relatives.

A memorial celebration of life was held Saturday at Chapel in the Pines in Twain Harte.

Memorial donations can be made to the Benevolence Fund, which provides for needy families in Tuolumne County, at Chapel in the Pines, P.O. Box 1858, Twain Harte, CA 95383.
