Alfred Julian Burkhart Dec. 2, 1929 Jan. 4, 2005 Murphys resident Alfred Julian Burkhart died Tuesday at his home. He was 75. He was born in Hodgeman County, Kan., and had lived in Murphys for 12 years. He was an engineer for Teledyne Systems in Northridge, Los Angeles County, for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Sons In Retirement in Murphys, Forest Meadows Men's Club and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Murphys. Mr. Burkhart is survived by his daughters, Laurie Helm of Los Angeles, Shari Burkhart of Boulder, Colo., and Jan Edwards of Sonora; sisters, Dolores Abbott of Beaver, Okla., Rita Zerr of Garden City, Kan., and Marge Conell of Great Bend, Kan.; and granddaughters, Tara Rose Edwards and Amber Edwards of Sonora. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie, in October 2003. A rosary is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Murphys. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice of the Sierra, P.O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA 95370.
