Betty Eilene (Morris) Hopwood

Sonora resident Betty Eilene (Morris) Hopwood died Dec. 13 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 76.
Mrs. Hopwood was born in French Camp, the daughter of Robert and Mable Morris.
She was raised in Tracy and graduated from Tracy High School in 1955. After high school, she worked for the Tracy Defense Depot.
She lived in San Luis Obispo and San Jose before moving to Twain Harte, where she worked as a bank teller.
She later worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, Hopwood Tool & Die.
Mrs. Hopwood enjoyed painting, especially landscape oil painting. She also enjoyed square dancing with the Twain Harte Twirlers.
She also enjoyed gardening and traveling, including trips to the Holy Land, a cruise with family and friends, and camping in the High Sierra.
She was a former member of Soroptimist International of Twain Harte.
Mrs. Hopwood was a member of Calvary Chapel Sonora in Soulsbyville.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Hopwood is survived by her husband of 36 years, David Hopwood, of Twain Harte; her children and their spouses, Bennie Allen Dorsett III and Audrey, of Sonora, Gary Robert Dorsett and Tanya, of Turlock, Jeff and Sue Hopwood, of Sonora, and Jennifer Spicer, of Redding; grandchildren and their spouses, Bennie Allen Dorsett IV and Nicole, of Twain Harte, Brenda Nicole Clark and Chad Clark, of Victorville, Ashley Renee Dorsett, of Sonora, Brandon Michael William Dorsett and Loren, of Kingsville, Texas, Tyler James Dorsett, of Turlock, Erika and Craig McClennhan, of Sonora, Kirstie and John Ringer, of Reno, Nev., Stephanie Harrington, of Redding, Amber Spicer, of Redding, and John Spicer, of Redding; sister, Carole Rueb, of Tracy; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Chapel Sonora, 19889 Soulsbyville Road, Soulsbyville.

Myrna Evon (Housley) Nordstrom

Sonora resident Myrna Evon (Housley) Nordstrom died Jan. 7 at Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale. She was 58.
Mrs. Nordstrom was born in Hayward, the daughter of Harlan and Martha Housley. She lived in the Bay Area and Tracy and worked at NEC Electronics for 22 years before moving to Sonora in 2001.
She co-owned the UPS Store in Oakdale since 1999.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose for 22 years. She held numerous positions and volunteered many hours.
Mrs. Nordstrom enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also liked her dogs, the outdoors, baking, playing shuffleboard, watching NASCAR and visiting Reno.
Mrs. Nordstrom was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, DeWayne Housley.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Wayne Nordstrom, of Sonora; her brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Debby Housley, of Castro Valley; sisters-in-law, Glenda Housley, of Hayward, and Lynn Nordstrom, of Sacramento; and four nephews and one niece.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sonora Moose Lodge, 20921 Longeway Road, Sonora. A potluck will follow.
