Mary Asher Stewart

June 29, 1926 — Jan. 23, 2004

Longtime Sonora resident Mary Asher Stewart died Friday at her home. She was 77.

She was born in Ely, Nev., and later moved with her family to Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Raymond K. Stewart on Dec. 6, 1945, and they moved to California in 1956 and lived in the Bay Area.

She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Walnut Creek from 1958-68, serving on the board of directors. She also was a member of the board of directors of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce from 1976-79, serving as president from 1978-79. After moving to Sonora in 1980 with her husband, they owned and operated the Columbia Spice Company.

Her family said her interests included traveling, art and antiques. She was a shining spirit who loved life and people, her family added.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Stewart of Sonora; a son, Raymond Stewart Jr. of Alameda; a grandson, Tanoa Stewart of Oakland; a brother, Floyd Asher of Bountiful, Utah; and a sister, Mona Heiner of Bellevue, Wash.

No services are scheduled at her request.

Robert John ‘Bob' Prutch

Aug. 20, 1933 — Jan. 23, 2004

Robert John "Bob" Prutch of Jamestown died Friday at a Sonora hospital. He was 70.

He was born in Gustine, Merced County, and lived most of his life in the San Joaquin Valley. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda. In later years, he attended California State University, Stanislaus.

He was a member of the California Highway Patrol for 20 years and worked as a sergeant in Modesto. He was personnel director for three years for DHL, an international express delivery service, in London. He also had served in the U.S. Army for two years.

He lived in Jamestown for one year.

His family said he was an avid chess player and traveler.

Mr. Prutch is survived by his father, Charles Prutch of Jamestown; and his son, John Prutch of Modesto.

No services are scheduled.

Donations can be made to any favorite charity.

Jimmie Lee Lunsford

Nov. 26, 1924 — Jan. 26, 2004

Longtime Sonora resident Jimmie Lee Lunsford died Monday at a Sonora hospital. He was 79.

He was born in Oklahoma and worked as a general engineering contractor for 40 years.

He was a member of the Antioch Masonic Lodge and was active in the East Contra Costa County Horsemen's Association and the Delta Horsemen's Association, where he served as past president for both organizations. He also was a member of the San Joaquin Yacht Club and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His family said he enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially participating in rodeos, and was an avid outdoorsman.

Mr. Lunsford is survived by his wife of 54 years, Aline Lunsford of Sonora; three daughters and a son-in-law, Marsha and Ric Huelster of Oakley, Contra Costa County, and Sharon LaVeau and Valerie Bayley, both of Antioch; four grandchildren, Paul and Joe LaVeau and Crystal Bayley, all of Antioch, and Leeann Oswald of Byron, Contra Costa County; a great-grandson, Layton Lee Oswald; and a sister, Wanda Starr of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmie Lunsford Jr. and Brad Lee Lunsford.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
