Eileen Loulla Geurin
Dec. 12, 1952 — Feb. 20, 2012

    Sonora resident Eileen Loulla Geurin died Feb. 20 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 59.
    Ms. Geurin was born in California to Aubrey Geurin and Georgeanna Geurin-Coiner. She lived in Sonora for 10 years and was a homemaker for 20 years.
    Ms. Geurin was preceded in death by her parents; and her longtime life partner, Deniece Maxwell, in 2011.
    Ms. Geurin is survived by her children and their spouses, Nancy and John Proctor, of Ceres, and David and Sara Geurin, of Sonora; grandchildren, Christopher Beleele, Christina Beleele-Blunt, Joshua Beleele, Johnny Proctor, Joey Proctor, Cecilia Proctor and Oliver Geurin; and her sister, Earlian Hurst, of Sonora.
    A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Quail Hollow Apartment Complex in Sonora.
    The Neptune Society of Central California in Modesto handled arrangements.

David James Johnston
Jan. 27, 1940 — Feb. 23, 2012

    Arnold resident David James Johnston died Feb. 23 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was 72.
    Mr. Johnston was a native of Bisbee, Ariz., and lived almost his entire life in California. He graduated from Manteca High School and was a member of the marching band. From his 15th birthday on, he worked at Peter’s Market and became a co-owner years later.
    Mr. Johnston relocated to Bear Valley 30 years ago and owned the Bear Valley General Store. He was a local businessman and very active in community affairs, including the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce and Bear Valley Business Association.
    Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife, Beth Johnston, of Arnold; his sister, Ellen, of French Camp; children, Shelly, of Lodi, Kelly, of Galt, Kristy, of Santa Cruz, and Scott, of Cheyenne, Wyo; stepsons Baxter, of West Virginia and Aaron, of Oregon; and his nephew Curtis, of San Diego.
    A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Buena Vista Cemetery, Jones Street, Murphys, with a potluck to follow at 4468 Blackfoot Circle, Camp Connell.
    San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.


    BALLWANZ — Nellie Ballwanz, 94, of Sonora, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
    HOLLOWAY — Clara Holloway, 94, of Sonora, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
    WALLACE — Marie Rausch Wallace, 73, of Jamestown, died Feb. 17 at a Modesto hospital. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. March 12 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz; a celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. April 14 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Sugar Pine. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
