DuTemple

dead at 56

March 5, 1946 - Feb. 21, 2003

Lifelong Tuolumne County resident Sandra Lee (Townsend) DuTemple, 56, died Friday of cancer at Stanford University Medical Center.

Born in Sonora, Ms. DuTemple graduated from Sonora Elementary School and, in 1964, from Sonora High School, where she was active in many aspects of school life.

She graduated from Stanislaus State University and earned her teaching credential. She did her student teaching at Sonora Elementary and most of the other schools in Tuolumne County as well as in Snelling and Modesto.

Her dedication to education also extended to 20 years of service as a trustee on the Columbia Elementary School board.

She was an avid reader and owned and operated The Little Shop in Columbia for seven years.

Ms. DuTemple is survived by her son, Rick DuTemple of Lodi; her daughter, Nikole Nichols of San Jose; her parents, Mel and Lois Townsend of Sonora; a brother, Dave Townsend of Soulsbyville; a granddaughter, Megan DuTemple of Lodi; and two nephews, Brian Townsend of Sonora and Trevor Townsend of Park City, Utah.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private.

Donations in Ms. DuTemple's memory may be made to the Columbia Elementary School Library Fund, 22540 Parrotts Ferry Road, Columbia 95310.

Robert Sloane Munro

Jan. 26, 1917 - Feb. 20, 2003

Robert Sloane Munro, 86, died of natural causes Thursday at his daughter's home in Groveland.

Born in Denton, Mont., he was raised in San Francisco from age 5.

In 1941, he married Elizabeth Agnes Grant, and in 1948 they moved to San Pablo, where they raised their five daughters.

They moved to San Mateo in 1966, where they lived for 37 years.

Mr. Munro spent his last two months at the Groveland home of his eldest daughter.

Family members described him as a gentle, kind and loving man who had a positive influence on all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth, of Hillcrest Manor in Jamestown; five daughters, Maureen Barreiro of Groveland, Roberta Young of Los Altos, Janet Hansen of Washington, D.C., Ardyth BathHurst of Arnold and Del Munro-Lucido of South Lake Tahoe; seven grandchildren, Christopher and David Young, Kelly and Dana Backens, Michael and Nicholas Barreiro and Danielle Lucido; two great-grandchildren, John Young and Ian Young; and a sister, Lorraine Phillips of Palo Alto.

No services are planned. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Rachel Rebecca (Roberson) King

April 7, 1977 - Feb. 20, 2003

Rachel Rebecca (Roberson) King, 25, of Tuolumne died unexpectedly Thursday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

A lifelong resident of Tuolumne County, Mrs. King graduated from Sonora Elementary School and, in 1995, from Sonora High School.

She worked as a warehouse clerk at Andy's True Value Hardware in Sonora for five years.

Mrs. King is survived by her husband, James, of Tuolumne; her father, John Roberson of Sonora; her mother, Cheryl Singletary of Livermore; three brothers, Ian Roberson of Colorado, Leannan Roberson of Georgia and Joseph Roberson of Sonora; a sister Melissa Roberson of Mi-Wuk Village; her parents-in-law, Del and Ruth King of Tuolumne; and three sisters-in-law, Stacey Chavez of Nevada, Shelly Hill of Modesto and Delene Egger of Tuolumne.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora.

Andreana Brisco

May 31, 1926 - Feb. 23, 2003

Andreana Brisco of Sonora died Sunday at her home. She was 76.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Brisco worked as a quality control inspector for General Instruments in Mountain View for 14 years.

She lived in Sonora for 14 years and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Tuolumne General Hospital Auxiliary. She loved cooking and collecting dolls.

Mrs. Brisco is survived by two sons, Andrew Brisco of Sonora and James Brisco of Jamestown; a daughter, Roseann Reeves of Jamestown; a brother, Tomas Valentino of New York; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose Brisco, in December.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Heuton Memorial Chapel.

Shirley Ann Mize

Oct. 26, 1953 - Feb. 16, 2003

Shirley Ann Mize of Columbia died Sunday, Feb. 16, at a Sonora hospital after a short illness. She was 49.

Born in Seattle, Miss Mize lived in Columbia for 20 years. She worked as a cashier for R&L Mini Mart for 10 years.

She loved animals, especially horses, dogs, birds, goats and pigs, and had many pets during her life. She became a surrogate mother to a foal rejected by its mother and was known to take the animal with her as she drove through town.

An avid "junker," she enjoyed going to flea markets. She collected a number of things, including troll dolls and butterflies, both of which she had amassed by the hundreds.

Family members said she had a special place in her heart for children who needed a warm meal, a reassuring smile and a little respect.

Miss Mize is survived by her mother, Mildred Mize Richardson of Elma, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Mize of San Jose; a niece and nephew, Jennifer Mize and Danny Mize of San Jose; and her companion, Rod Brooks of Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert J. Mize.

A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Miss Mize's home. Call 536-9918 for directions. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Ellen Rule

Aug. 18, 1913 - Feb. 20, 2003

Gertrude Ellen Rule, a former Sonora resident, died of natural causes Thursday at a Van Nuys Hospital. She was 89.

Born in San Jose, Mrs. Rule moved to Van Nuys seven years ago.

Previously an 18-year resident of Tuolumne County, she was a graduate of Columbia Grammar School and Sonora High School.

She worked for 10 years as a certified nursing assistant and loved gardening.

She also was a member and former president of the Eagle Lodge auxiliary and belonged to the Sweet Adelines women's barbershop singing organization for many years.

Mrs. Rule also was active with the Humane Society.

She is survived by her daughter, Patti Rule of Burbank; nieces, Addie Minners of Jamestown and Molly Jones of Livermore; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Friday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A chapel service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by burial at Columbia City Cemetery.

WEBER — Adeline (Palange) Weber, 94, of Sonora died Friday at a Sonora care home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

WOODS — Minnie Woods, 73, of Sonora, who died Feb. 18 at a Modesto hospital, is also survived by a friend, Mary Nowlin. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Sharp.

FIELDS — Donations to help the family of Robin Fields may be made in Ed Fields' name to his account at County Bank, 1311 Sanguinetti Road, Sonora.
