Elizabeth ‘Bettsy' Anna (Kirby) Hudson

Aug. 31, 1935 — Feb. 17, 2004

Longtime Calaveras County resident Elizabeth "Bettsy" Anna (Kirby) Hudson died Feb. 17 at her home. She was 68.

She was born in Fourth Crossing in Calaveras County, and lived most of her life in Altaville. She worked as a licensed vocational nurse for Vista America throughout the Southwest and at hospitals in Crescent City and Sacramento before her retirement in 2002 from Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas. She was also a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd Hudson of Altaville; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Leonard Shepherd of Ceres; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Shirley Hudson of Fremont, Patrick and Cathy Hudson of Riverbank and Joe Hudson of Altaville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Larry Jordan of Forest Hill and Martha and Joe Dyer of Las Vegas; six nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John "Jack" and Margaret Kirby.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Union Congregational Church in Angels Camp.

Donations can be made to Capt. Anthony Albasio Memorial Fund, in care of Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital, 768 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas, CA 95249.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Harry Ernest Rosebrough

Nov. 18, 1928 — Feb. 18, 2004

Harry Ernest Rosebrough of Tuolumne died Wednesday at a Sonora hospital. He was 75.

He was born in Topeka, Kan., and had lived in Tuolumne since 1999 and also lived in the area from 1957-68. He worked as a laborer and "powder monkey," or explosives worker, in road construction. He hauled lumber to Westside Lumber Company and was an explosives worker for Pickering Lumber Company, as well as working on gas wells in Northern California and oil fields in Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and was a sergeant in Incheon, Korea.

He was a longtime member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of American Legion.

His family was his first priority, family members said, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Mr. Rosebrough is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lenora F. Rosebrough of Tuolumne; daughters and sons-in-law, Harriet and Joe Whitmer and Faye E. Rosebrough, all of Tuolumne, Sally R. and Joe Gannon of Atwater and Sharon L. Rosebrough of Beaverton, Ore.; a sister, Opal Baker of Oregon; foster sisters, Myrtle Coffey of Camdenton, Mo., Georgia Doughtery and Bessie Doughtery and her husband, Bill, all of Kansas City, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, Leslie Robertson and her husband, Harry, of Oregon, Brenda Vasquez of Missouri, Jeanine Baker of Kansas, Mary Louise Jones and her husband, Richard, and Bobi Blaine and her husband, John, all of Harrisonville, Mo.; and a nephew, Tyson Baker of Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his son, Seth Thomas Rosebrough; a foster sister, Mary Edler; and a nephew, Johnnie Baker.

Services were held yesterday.

DEWOLF — William DeWolf, 76, of Sonora died yesterday at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
