Evelyn Elizabeth Robinson

Oct. 28, 1919 — Feb. 1, 2013

 Sonora resident Evelyn Robinson died Feb. 1 at her home. She was 93.

Mrs. Robinson was born in Richmond to Norman Charles and Domenica Cecilia Robbins. She graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1937. 

She married William E. Robinson in 1940 and moved to Merced. Mrs. Robinson lived in Merced for 65 years before moving to Sonora in 2007 to live with her daughter, Julie.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed old movies, cooking shows, and the news.

Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 35 years, William “Bill” Robinson; brother Norman Vincent “Bobby” Robbins; and sister, Beverly Margaret Pratt.

She is survived by daughters, Julie Duckett, of Sonora, and Barbara Parris, of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Joel Taylor, of Columbia, Jennifer Bouchard, of Salinas, Allison Jensen, of Sonora, Lisa Herriman, of Fort Worth, William Parris, of Fort Worth, and Michael Parris, of Fort Worth; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Robinson was interred at Merced Cemetery District with a graveside memorial service.

Neptune Society of Central California is handling arrangements.

Alvin ‘Al’ Arnold Stephenson

September 3, 1927 — Feb. 15, 2013

Former Columbia resident Alvin Stephenson died Feb. 15, at Orangeburg Manor in Modesto. He was 85.

Mr. Stephenson was born in Butte Meadows, near Chico. He served in the U.S. Army for three years in the mid-1950s in Europe.

He was a hard rock miner and laborer, living and working between the Mother Lode and the Central Valley. He lived in Columbia for times in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. He most recently lived in Ceres.

Mr. Stephenson was a member of the Laborers Local 1130 in Modesto and was a San Francisco 49er fan. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gold mining.

Mr. Stephenson was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Delores Stephenson, in 2004; aHe is survived by children, Cindy Scrip, of Utah, Karen Rosales, of Texas, Chris and husband John Schulz, of Columbia, Ben and wife Jen Stephenson, of Ceres, Opal Larose, of Mo., and Diana Stephenson, of Modesto; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters.

Visitation will be held 2 to 6 p.m. today at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Columbia City Cemetery, Cemetery Lane.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Hazel (Siminoff) Winter

March 27, 1932 – Feb. 12, 2013

 Sonora resident Hazel Winter died Feb. 12 on route to San Jose Medical Center. She was 80.

She worked as a bank associate in Santa Clara County and moved to Sonora in 2008.

She was a member of the first Presbyterian Church of Columbia, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 123, of Murphys, and PEO Chapter LH, of Sonora.

Mrs. Winter is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bob Winter, of Sonora; son, Sam and wife Stacey Winter, of San Jose; daughters, Mari-Ellen Kihlthau, of Auburn, and Edie and husband Gary Hlavac, of San Diego; sister, Irene Klockenteger, of Temecula, in Riverside County; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the 49ers, 11155 Jackson St., Columbia, and 2 p.m. March 15 at the First Presbyterian Church of Gilroy, 6000 Miller Ave.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Children’s Language Clinic of San Jose Scottish Rite, PO Box 18220, San Jose, CA 95158-8220.

Anna ‘Alfreda’ (Wulfert) Zwaal

July 28, 1919 — Feb. 11, 2013

 Sonora resident Anna Zwaal died Feb. 11 at her home. She was 93.

Mrs. Zwaal was born in Oakland to Frederick and Freida Wulfert. She grew up in San Leandro and attended high school in Hayward.

Mrs. Zwaal worked in real estate and unemployment services. She lived in Sonora for 43 years.

She was a member of the Merri-Mates of Oakland, and Tuolumne Star Chapter 123. She enjoyed playing cards, and arts and crafts.

Mrs. Zwaal was preceded in death by husband, Lloyd Zwaal, in 1987.

She is survived by daughters, Audrey Taylor, of Burnaby, Canada; sons, Richard and James Zwaal, of Oakland; three grandchildren, Jessica Taylor, of Orillia, Canada, Adam Taylor, of Cobble Hill, Canada, Amy Zwaal, of Oakland; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Heuton Memorial Chapel, 400 S. Stewart St., Sonora. A reception will follow.

CUCUZZA — Antoninia Cucuzza, 70, of Sonora, died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

INGERSOLL — Zelda May Ingersoll, 74, of Copperopolis, died Feb. 16 at her home. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

KINNETT — Thomas G. Kinnett, aka Jay Thomas, 66, of Tuolumne, died Feb. 12 in Tuolumne. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Graveside inurnment will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Carters Cemetery in Tuolumne with veteran’s honors. 

PROULX — Larry Proulx, 65, of Sonora, died Tuesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

STEELY — Bertha A. Steely, 87, of Sonora, died Tuesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

WOODWARD — Paul Woodward III, 58, previously of Sonora, died Feb. 14 in Jamestown. Services have been held. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
