Longtime Tuolumne County resident Wanda Mae (Henderson) Anderson died Feb. 12 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. She was 75.
Mrs. Anderson lived in Big Oak Flat for 60 years and in Sonora for two years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Anderson; and her son, David William Anderson.
She is survived by her daughter, Amber-Lynn Anderson, of Groveland.
The Neptune Society of Central California handled arrangements.
Oct. 21, 1924 — Feb. 15, 2012
Tuolumne resident Andrew Stephen “Andy” Artzer died Feb. 15 at his home. He was 87.
Mr. Artzer was born in Sterling, Colo., and was one of 16 children. His family is of German descent. He was a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 aboard the USS Maryland, USS Fort Royal and USAT Fred Cainsworth.
Mr. Artzer arrived in Tuolumne in 1946 and married Flora Ciarasso. He worked as a certified lumber grader at West Side Lumber Company and Pickering Lumber Mill from 1946 until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Artzer coached one of the first Tuolumne Tigers Little League baseball teams in the 1950s. For many years he was a member of the Tuolumne Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cribbage, fly tying, flea marketing, mushroom hunting, wood cutting and weekly trips to Black Oak Casino.
Mr. Artzer was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Eva Artzer; his wife of 59 years, Flora Artzer; and siblings Jacob Artzer, Mary Abihil, Molly Vancil, John Artzer, Susan Rupp and Jewell Vance.
Mr. Artzer is survived by sons and their spouses Robert and Denise Artzer, of Twain Harte, Dennis and Tina Artzer, of Soulsbyville and Stephen and Anna Artzer, of Tuolumne; brothers Larry Artzer, of Glendale, Ariz., Donald Artzer, of Goodland, Kans., and Lewis Artzer, Joseph Artzer and Paul Artzer, all of Sterling, Colo.; sisters Lorraine Fix, of Billings, Mont., and Dorothy Hergenreter, Christine McElvain and Anna Cucarola, all of Sterling, Colo.; grandchildren Erin Hall, of Columbia, Dennis Artzer, of Tehachapi, Melissa Artzer, of Standard, Jody Kaiser, of Soulsbyville, Samantha Armstrong, of Sierra Village, Allison Artzer, of Sonora, Adam Artzer, of Tuolumne, Stephanie Minick, of Morgan Hill, and Sarai Artzer, of Costa Mesa; 11 great-grandchilden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Tuolumne Chapel of Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.

Sonora resident Becky Tibbetts died Feb. 11 at her home. She was 47.
Ms. Tibbetts was born in Manteca and worked as a loan officer for Washington Mutual for three years.
She lived in Sonora for nine years.
Ms. Tibbetts is survived by her parents, Martha and Walter Scholz, of Sonora; sons Richard Rodriguez, of Sonora, Jesse Silveira, of Manteca, and Paul Velasquez, of Sonora; her brother, Lee Kawelmacher, of Sonora; her sister, Tina Stewart, of South Dakota; and her half sister, Sheila Scholz, of Idaho.

Anita Marion Policht

Cold Springs resident Anita Marion Policht died Feb. 12 at Avalon Care Center. She was 94.
Mrs. Policht was born in Washington, D.C., and was a retired licensed vocational nurse.
She lived in Cold Springs and Tuolumne County for most of her adult life.
Mrs. Policht worked at Sonora Community Hospital for 30 years and belonged to St. James Episcopal Church. She was active in PTA.
In her later years, Mrs. Policht worked at the Tuolumne County Library’s Pinecrest Branch and was a U.S. Census worker.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Muriel Hender; her grandson, John Ghiorso; former husbands, Peter Ghiorso, Homer Hender, and Dutch Policht; and parents Hilda Rocco and Harold Davison.
Mrs. Policht is survived by children Carol Jean Cole and Peter Michael Ghiorso; grandchildren Lynne Eckerson, Vince Eckerson, Dean Eckerson, Jenny Cole, Michael Cole, Ronnie Cole and Susan Calhoun; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Oct. 28, 1971 — Feb. 9, 2012
San Andreas resident Jason Morrill died Feb. 9 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton. He was 40.
Mr. Morrill was a longtime resident of Calaveras County and graduated from Calaveras High School in 1989. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during Operation Desert Storm.
Mr. Morrill worked as an assistant chef at Camps Restaurant at Greenhorn Creek Golf Course in Angels Camp. He enjoyed fishing, camping and reading.
Mr. Morrill is survived by his son’s mother, Emily Abraham; his son, Jay Allen Morrill; his grandmother, Eva Hensley, of San Andreas; grandparents Jack and Patty Morrill, of Fresno; his parents, John and Sandy Morrill, of Mokelumne Hill; his sister Jenessa Morrill; his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Nicole Morrill; two nieces, two nephews and a cousin.
Mr. Morrill was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joe Hensley.
A memorial reception will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Pickle Patch in San Andreas.
