Edward ‘Ed’ Fredrick Harris
Nov. 30, 1944 — Jan. 27, 2012

    Former Sonora resident Edward “Ed” Fredrick Harris died Jan. 27 at his home in San Jose. He was 67.
    Born in Lynwood to Ruth Cox and Dewey Harris, he grew up in Sonora and attended  Modesto Junior College before going to Baylor University on a basketball scholarship.
    He graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1968.
He was the president of Centura Software in San Jose, retiring in 1990. He was a Christian who enjoyed helping others grow in the faith.
    Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandy Harris, of San Jose; children and their spouses, Greg Mayhew, and Shawna and Don Rocha, all of San Jose, and Shelli and Joe Bondi, of Campbell; and six grandchildren.
    A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Point Church, 3695 Rose Terrasse Circle, San Jose.
    Donations can be made to the Evergreen Valley Church, Ed Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2750 Yerba Buena Road, San Jose, CA 95121.
    Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos is handling arrangements.

Harry Richard Kattelmann
Nov. 23, 1920 — Jan. 30, 2012

    Sonora resident Harry Richard Kattelmann died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Transitional Care Unit. He was 91.
    Born in San Francisco to Mildred and Mildred Kattelmann, he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1942, then went on to serve stateside in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1944.
    He earned a master’s degree in environmental management in 1995, and a doctorate in engineering and management in 2005.
    He worked at container labs, SCM and fabricated metals, all in the Bay Area, and developed several patents.
    He was married to Jeanette Landgren from 1943 to 1982. The couple later divorced. He was married to Doris Griffin from 1984 until her death in 2007.
    He volunteered at Oakland Public Schools, Dunsmuir House, Bay Area Engineering Council, Columbia State Historic Park, Tuolumne County Library, and Belleview School.
    He enjoyed fly fishing in Eastern Sierra Nevada streams and Mattole River.
    Mr. Kattelmann is survived by his children, Rick Kattelmann, of Mammoth Lakes, Greg Young, of San Francisco, and Pat Young, of Oakland; and grandchildren, Vireo Gaines, of Albany, Sage Gaines, of Lomita, and Brendan Young, of San Francisco.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Doris Kattelmann.
    A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.

Nellie S. Tucker
April 18, 1917 — Jan. 12, 2012

    Sonora resident Nellie S. Alekna Tucker died Jan. 12 at Meadowview Manor in Sonora. She was 94.
    Born in Duquesne, Pa., to Anthony and Agnes Sestokas, she was the executive secretary for Babcock and Wilcox, a heavy industry company, in Barberton, Ohio. She lived in Sonora for about 10 years.
    She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, needlepoint and cross stitch.
    Mrs. Tucker is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert and Sandra Tucker, of California, and Ralph and Shirley Tucker, and Ranelle Gerry, all of Ohio; siblings, David Sestokas, of Virginia, Robert Sestokas and Alice Betz, both of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Alberta Undercoffer, of Barberton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Tucker.
    A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection has already been held. Interment was at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Elisabeth Schairer
Nov. 12, 1926 — Jan. 26, 2012

    Cold Springs resident Elisabeth Schairer died Thursday at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. She was 86.
    Born in Germany to Paul and Teresia Speidel, she was a bookkeeper for her family’s plumbing business, S and S Plumbing, in Cupertino and Cold Springs for about 40 years.
She lived in Cold Springs for 30 years.
    She enjoyed skiing, especially at Dodge Ridge, cooking authentic German cuisine, being outdoors, hiking, and going to Pinecrest.
    Mrs. Schairer was survived by her husband, who died the following day, Franz Schairer, of Cold Springs; daughter, Monica Mueller, of Truckee; grandchildren, Mike and wife Kristi Mueller, and Jenny Mueller, all of Truckee; and four great-grandchildren.
    No service is scheduled.
    Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Franz Schairer
Nov. 27, 1923 — Jan. 27, 2012

    Cold Springs resident Franz Schairer died Friday at Avalon Care Center. He was 88.
    Born in German to Franz and Ava Schairer, he owned and operated his own plumbing company for about 40 years.
    He lived in Cold Springs for 30 years.
    He enjoyed fishing, hiking, and skiing at Dodge Ridge.
Mr. Schairer is survived by his daughter, Monica Mueller, of Truckee; grandchildren, Mike and wife Kristi Mueller, and Jenny Mueller, all of Truckee; and four great-grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elisabeth Schairer, who died the previous day.
    No service is scheduled.

    BERTNICK — Lillian Bertnick, 89, of Jamestown, died Jan. 19 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. A memorial Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
