Erika Ingeborg Bermueller

April 4, 1951 — Jan. 28, 2013

Groveland resident Erika Ingeborg Bermueller died Jan. 28 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 61.

Ms. Bermueller was born in Germany to Anna Collier, and moved to the United States at age 9 after her mother married a sergeant in U.S. Army who was stationed in Monterey.

She moved to Groveland about 13 years ago to leave the urban life and worked as a house cleaner.

She enjoyed cats, dogs and other animals and donated to the Humane Society.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1969.

She is survived by friends, Tara and Tim Durland, of Groveland, and family in Germany.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Groveland Christian Church, 18829 Foote St.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.


Donna Lou Cross

Aug. 28, 1936 — Jan. 31, 2013

Sonora resident Donna Cross died Jan. 31 at Washington Hospital in Fremont. She was 76.

Mrs. Cross was born in Fairview, W.V., was raised by her older sister in Detroit, then moved to California with her husband, Tom Cross.

She was a waitress and bartender for many years with Moffett Field Officer’s Club, then owned her own bar, Duke’s in Sunnyvale, for 23 years. She retired in 2000, moved to Sonora and worked at Walmart for 10 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Cross, in 1979; and her sister, Norma Kruzal, in 2012.

She is survived by daughters, Linda Cross, of Sonora, and Tammi Souza, of Fremont; sons, Tom “Cris” Cross, of Livermore, and Rick Cross, of Brentwood; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. March 1 at the Sonora Inn, 160 S. Washington St.

Neptune Society of Central California is handling arrangements.


Mary Lou (Mobley) Hinshaw

Nov. 30, 1953 — Feb. 5, 2013

Former Soulsbyville resident Mary Lou (Mobley) Hinshaw died Feb. 5 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton. She was 59.

Mrs. Hinshaw was born in Vincennes, Ind., to Herman and Evelyn Mobley. She moved as a child to Santa Cruz, where she attended elementary and high school.

She worked as a bookkeeper in payroll and human resources for car dealerships in Ukiah, Santa Rosa, San Leandro and, most recently, at Geweke Toyota in Lodi, where she was awarded Associate of the Year.

She moved from Ukiah to Soulsbyville and lived there from 1988 to 1997 with her husband, for work and to be with family.

She enjoyed cooking, interior decorating and shopping. She was a Christian.

Mrs. Hinshaw is survived by her husband of 42 years, Philip Dale Hinshaw, of Stockton; daughter Jenny Hinshaw Wise, of Sonora; grandsons, Jordan and Cameron Wise, of Sonora; brother, Lynn Mobley, and his wife, Dorothy, of Minden, Nev.; sisters, Beth Mobley Norton and Melissa Mobley, both of Santa Cruz; many sisters- and brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Heights Assembly of God, 13711 Joshua Way, Sonora.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.  



DRUNTZ — Thomas Druntz, 82, of Altaville, died Tuesday at his home. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. at Foothill Community Church, 3710 Whittle Road, Angels Camp. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

LAREZ — Juan Larez, 79, of Sonora, died Wednesday at University of California, Davis, Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Heuton Memorial Chapel, which is also handling arrangements. 

ZWAAL — Anna “Alfreda” Zwaal, 93, of Sonora, died Monday at her home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
