Helen Etta            (Dowell) Uglow

March 3, 1921 — Feb. 7, 2014

Coulterville resident Helen Etta (Dowell) Uglow died Friday at Avalon Care Center. She was 92.

Mrs. Uglow was born in Kimball, Neb., the daughter of  Byron and Ruth Dowell.

She married Cecil Uglow in Gering, Neb., in 1937.

Mrs. Uglow was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family, cooking, quilting and reading. She supported Habitat for Humanity. 

Mrs. Uglow was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years; and her daughter, Pauline Swanson. 

She is survived by her children, Marion Uglow, of Casa Grande, Ariz., Donna Uglow, of Sacramento, JoAnna Allen of La Grange; and 59 grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church, 4175 Abeto St., La Grange.

Henry Henley ‘Hank’ Chapman

Sept. 28, 1940 — Jan. 24, 2014

Jamestown resident Henry Henley “Hank” Chapman died Jan. 24 at his home. He was 73.

Mr. Chapman was born in San Mateo, son of Charles and Constance Chapman.

He worked for 30 years as an insurance agent in Scotts Valley. He retired to Jamestown.

In retirement, he kept busy by working for Wilson Realty. He also worked as a substance abuse counselor for the California Department of Corrections in Jamestown. 

He committed the later part of his life to raising two of his grandchildren.

He enjoyed historical archives. He belonged to The Society of Mayflower Descendants, Charter of Monterey Bay Colony, and The Revolutionary War Society. 

In 2007 he wrote a narrative based on his grandfather’s time in the Civil War. 

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Alano Club, 19421 Village Drive, Sonora.

Dorothy Ethel        (Brady) Edwards

Sept. 8, 1924 — Feb. 4, 2014

Twain Harte resident Dorothy Ethel (Brady) Edwards died Feb. 4 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 89.

Mrs. Edwards was born in Auburn, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Brady, of Nevada City.

She married Clifford Warren Edwards in September 1945 in Nevada.

Mrs. Edwards worked as a waitress for more than 70 years. She worked at many local restaurants, including the Twain Harte Lodge and Eproson House.

She spent her free time volunteering for the Twain Harte Fire Department, Twain Harte Rotary and Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years; five brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Nellie Hyder, of Manteca, Shirley Watkins, of Jamestown, and Sandra and Bob Hargroves, of Jamestown; her brother, Jerry Brady and his wife, Lydia, of San Pedro; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and 11 great- great- grandchildren. 

Memorial donations can be made to the Twain Harte Rotary or Twain Harte Fire Department.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St.., Sonora.

JONES — Michael Shane Jones, 48, of Stockton, died Jan.1 in Stockton. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tuolumne Memorial Hall, 18603 Pine St. Anker-Lucier Mortuary, Willets. .

KIRK — Noel Kirk, 82, of Jamestown, died Monday at Avalon Care Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

MADRID — Tasho Madrid, 99, of Sonora, died Saturday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

MARTIN — John Martin Jr., 60, of Sonora, died Friday at his home.Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
