Donna Jeanne Henley

Longtime Tuolumne County resident Donna Jeanne Henley died Dec. 5 at her Sonora home. She was 86.
Mrs. Henley was born in South Dakota. She lived in Tuolumne County for 54 years. She and her late husband, Les Henley, owned and operated Henley’s, a contractors supply store, for 40 years.
She served 54 years in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and earned the rank of commander. She also served as a former director at the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce and was in many clubs. She loved to travel and sew, and was also a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Les Henley, in 1999; and her son, Grant Henley, in 1980.
She is survived by her sons, Doug Henley, of Groveland, Don Henley, of Louisiana, and Greg Henley, of Sonora; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her brother Dick Thorson, of Stockton.
Private family services were held.

Longtime Twain Harte resident Constance Alice “Connie” (Kane) Leonard died Dec. 19 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 87.
Mrs. Leonard was born in Oakland and lived in Twain Harte for 45 years. She was a housewife.
She had been a member of the Sonora Emblem Club since 1975 and was a past president. She volunteered at Tuolumne General Hospital for 36 years. She was a member and past president of the All Saints’ Catholic Church Ladies’ Guild in Twain Harte. She was a past president of the AFS Intercultural student exchange program. She was also a longtime member of the Columbia College Community Choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Keith Leonard, in 1998; her sister, Patricia Starling, in 2013; and her parents, Emily and James Kane.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Greg and Candace Leonard, of Napa, Judy and Steve Bowen, of Auburn, and Denice Leonard, of Davis; grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon and Katie Bowen, of Chico, and Elena and Joseph Donovan, of Brooks, Maine; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Jan. 17 at All Saints’ Catholic Church in Twain Harte.

July 6, 1935 — Dec. 21, 2013
Lifelong Tuolumne resident Walter Strong died Dec. 21 at Avalon Care Center. He was 78.
Mr. Strong was born in Sonora and lived in Tuolumne his entire life. He worked as a lathe operator for 40 years. He was a member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and fishing.
Mr. Strong was preceded in death by his wife, Leah Strong, in 2008; and his son, Jerry Strong, in 2009.
He is survived by his son, Richard Strong, of Jamestown; his daughter, Rebekah Atkins, of Carmichael; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
No services are planned.

Tony J. Zamora II
Feb. 9, 1941 — Dec. 19, 2013
Burson resident Tony J. Zamora II died Dec. 19 at Lodi Memorial Hospital. He was 72.
Mr. Zamora was born in Littlefield, Texas. He was a general construction laborer. He was also a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joey Zamora.
Mr. Zamora is survived by his wife, Geraldine Zamora, of Burson; children, Diana Zamora Arquello, of Aurora, Colo., Grace Schnyder, of Black Forest, Colo., Toni Watson, of Portales, N.M., Jesse Zamora, of Burson, and Gloria Zamora, of Burson; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services have been held.
Burial was at Jenny Lind Cemetery.
