Obituaries for December 26

Jeanette L. Flores

July 15, 1951 — Dec. 21, 2003

Jeanette L. Flores of Altaville died Sunday at her home of natural causes. She was 52.

She was born in California. She lived in Altaville for one year and previously lived in Modesto. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Eric P. Flores of Altaville; a daughter, Molly Joyce Flores of Altaville; brothers Tim Coultrup of Marcola, Ore., Michael Coultrup of Napa, James Coultrup of San Jose and Jeff Coultrup of Louisville, Ky.; sisters Cheryl Delong of San Jose, Rebecca Coultrup of Manteca and Debbie Coultrup of Modesto; and her mother, Helen Coultrup of San Andreas.

Services will be held at a later date.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mary Frances Lancaster

Oct. 23, 1921 — Dec. 20, 2003

Longtime Sonora resident Mary Frances Lancaster died Saturday at a Sonora care home. She was 82.

She was born in Daytona Beach, Fla., and lived in Sonora for 26 years. She worked as an elementary school teacher for San Jose School District for 20 years. She served as a junior grade lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel J. and Linda Lancaster of Fallbrook, and Richard and Judy Lancaster of Redmond, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Tom Moungovan of Sebastopol, Jane Lancaster and Steve Colley of Morgan Hill, and Ruth and Ed Bartholomew of Tuolumne; a brother, George Smith III of Cincinnati; a sister, Dorothy Riggs of Mt. Plymouth, Fla.; and grandchildren Brian, Adam, Laura and Diane Lancaster, Sarah, Michael and Kate Moungovan, and Amanda and Amber Bartholomew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel "Jack" Lancaster, in 2000.

Private family services are scheduled.

Aug. 17, 1912 — Dec. 23, 2003

Longtime Mi-Wuk Village resident Audrey C. Meadows died Tuesday at a Sonora hospital. She was 91.

She was born in Cupertino and lived in Mi-Wuk Village for 52 years. She worked as a district clerk of the U.S. Forestry Service and was a member of Sierra Rebekah Lodge No. 245 in Sonora.

She is survived by her nephews, Everett Smith of Monterey, Raymond Smith of Chico and Russell Smith of San Jose.

No services are scheduled.

Andreas Moos

May 13, 1926 — Dec. 20, 2003

Andreas Moos of Groveland died Saturday at his home. He was 77.

He was born in Germany and lived in Groveland for 13 years. He worked as a steel worker for 25 years in Germany, Canada and Torrance. He retired and moved to Groveland. He was an altar boy for a Catholic Church in Germany.

His family said he enjoyed fishing, especially in the high country, Canada, at Cherry Lake and Saddlebag. He was intelligent and well-educated, his family added. He researched the history of 27 different countries and enjoyed playing cribbage.

Mr. Moos is survived by his wife of 14 years, Helene Moos of Groveland; a niece, Cathy Nelson of Chicago; and brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andreas and Babette Moos.

No services are scheduled at his request. Cremation will take place, and his ashes will be scattered in the ocean.

Melburn ‘Nubie' Alton Penrose

Sept. 29, 1920 — Dec. 23, 2003

Longtime Big Oak Flat resident Melburn "Nubie" Alton Penrose died Tuesday at a Modesto care center. He was 83.

He was born in Jacksonville and lived in Big Oak Flat for 28 years. He graduated from Sonora High School and was active in school activities and sports, including football. He worked as a plumber for 35 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

His family said he loved fishing, hunting and watching the Oakland Raiders.

Mr. Penrose is survived by his son, Mel Penrose of Big Oak Flat; daughters and companion, Judy Lewellen and Gary Wemmer, both of Big Oak Flat, and Jill Penrose of Jamestown; a sister, Bernice Albers of Modesto; grandchildren Greg Lewellen of Groveland, Darlene Baxter of Danville, Darin Baker of Jamestown, Derek Baker of Vacaville, and Mel and Eric Penrose of the Bay Area; great-grandchildren Carson Baxter of Danville, Alexa Plaster of Soulsbyville and Trayton Baker of Sonora; and longtime friend Edna Allen of Big Oak Flat.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Penrose, in 1976.

No services are scheduled.

BAKER — A service in remembrance of Mishel "Missy" Lean Baker, 35, of Sonora is scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow at Tuolumne River Ranger Station. She died Dec. 14 at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

PLUNKETT — Robert Plunkett, 67, died yesterday at a Sonora long-term-care center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

CUNNINGHAM — Florence Cunningham, 91, of Jamestown died yesterday at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

VETTER — Otto Vetter, 74, died yesterday at his Groveland home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

CASILLAS — Former Tuolumne County resident Georgia Casillas, 91, died yesterday at a Merced hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
