Kathleen Christine Gorgas died Nov. 28 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 55.
Ms. Gorgas was born in Sonora to Don and Shirley Gorgas. She was raised in Stent, near Jamestown.
She contracted polio when she was 3 years old. Despite meager means, her parents had a swimming pool built so she could exercise and strengthen her body.
Her parents were determined to keep her involved in activities while growing up, including the Eager Beaver 4-H Club. They also encouraged her fondness for cooking and baking. She also enjoyed fishing with her father and riding horses from Kennedy Meadows to Emigrant Basin Camp as a young girl.
Ms. Gorgas graduated from Jamestown Elementary School and from Sonora High School in 1975. She graduated from Fresno State University in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in health science and child development.
She continued on to earn a master’s degree in marriage, family and child counseling.
She worked briefly as a mental health therapist while living in the Fresno area.
She proudly earned her driver’s license and drove a specialized van while living in the Clovis area.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and traveling. She traveled to Hawaii with her mother and sisters.
She enjoyed knitting and would make afghans and quilts for her family. She also collected cookbooks and antique vases.
Ms. Gorgas returned to the family ranch in Stent in 1999 due to failing health. She moved to Jamestown in 2006.
Ms. Gorgas was preceded in death by parents.
She is survived by her siblings, Mary Gorgas Johnson, of Sonora, Dennis Gorgas, of Duluth, Minn., David Gorgas and his wife Mary, of Jamestown, Carol Gorgas, of Stent; and several generations of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora.

Laura Lee (Belemecich) Hacker
Aug. 3, 1949 — Nov. 17, 2012
Lifelong Sonora resident Laura Lee (Belemecich) Hacker died Nov. 17 at home from complications of a heart attack. She was 63.
Mrs. Hacker was born in Sonora on Aug. 3, 1949.
She enjoyed playing bingo.
Mrs. Hacker was preceded in death by her husband, Butch Hacker, in 1981; and her longtime companion, Jerry Myers, in 2006.
She is survived by her mother, Joan Meeks, formerly of Sonora and now of Anacortes, Wash.; her daughter Kim Juelson and her husband, Scott Hopkins, of Everett, Wash.; her granddaughters, Desiree Juelson, of Eliot, Maine, and Blayn Ayers, of Everett, Wash.; her sister, Leslie Green, of Anacortes; her brother, Rix Wooley, of Sonora; and several nieces and nephews.
Services have already been held.

BROXHOLM — Donald Broxholm, 73, of Hathaway Pines, died Nov. 21 at his home. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
CURTO — Jody Curto, 53, of Sacramento, died Sunday at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
EDMONDS — Viola Edmonds, 95, of Sonora, died Sunday at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
HEINTZ — Gerald W. “Jerry” Heintz died Nov. 10 at his home in Angels Camp. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Foothill Community Church in Angels Camp. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
HIRTZEL — Rodney Hirtzel, 74, of Jamestown, died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
WALDON — Marion Waldon, 96, of Mokelumne Hill, died Dec. 5 at her home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mokelumne Hill Protestant Cemetery. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
