Ella Louise McCarty-Hiatt
Aug. 23, 1915 — Dec. 23, 2011

    Copperopolis native Ella Louise McCarty-Hiatt died Friday at her home in Copperopolis. She was 96.
    Born in Salt Spring Valley to Jackson Dean and Helen Hunt McCarty, she was the granddaughter of Thomas and Agnes Dean McCarty, the founders of Copperopolis.
    She grew up in Salt Spring Valley, attending the Salt Spring Valley School and graduating from Bret Harte High School in 1932.
    She worked at the San Andreas and Angels Camp Museum into her 80s.
    She was a member of the Calaveras and Tuolumne historical societies, Calaveras-Tuolumne Cattlewomen, Ladies Auxiliary to California Pioneers for 53 years, and the Bret Harte Union High School Alumni Association.
    She enjoyed her animals, gardening and flower arranging.
    She especially enjoyed working on the family’s ranch along with her nephew, Ron McCarty, who preceded her in death.
    Mrs. McCarty-Hiatt is survived by her nieces, nephews and their spouses, Gary and Sim Hiatt, of Portugal, Shawn and Janet Hiatt, of Hawaii, Patricia McCarty, Ronda McCarty-Atkinson and David Atkinson, Stacey McCarty-Griffith and Kevin Griffith, and Dick and Deborah McCarty, all of Copperopolis, JT and Deadra McCarty, of Midland, Texas, Patricia McCarty-Hose and Frank Hose, and Donald Doe, all of Stockton, Robbie McCarty-Northington and Ben Northington, and Barbara McCarty-Wilson, all of Angels Camp, Helen Doe-Braun and Doug Braun, of Modesto, and Barbara McCarty-Friend and Ron Friend, of Florida; and numerous great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
    In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her seven siblings.
    A service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Angels Memorial Chapel.
    Donations can be made to the Calaveras County Hospice of the Sierra, 451 S. Main St., Angels Camp, CA 95222, or the Ladies Auxiliary to California Pioneers, attention Lynne Sandburg, P.O. Box 166, Linden, CA 95236.
    Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Billy Gene Satterfield
Sept. 7, 1948 — Dec. 23, 2011

    Murphys resident Billy Gene Satterfield died Friday at his home. He was 63.
    Born in Sutter Creek to Wanda Schmutzler, he owned and operated the hardware store, B&P Door Co. in Douglas Flat for 22 years.
    He was a member of the Henry Clay Masonic Lodge 95 in Sutter Creek, and a former member of Angels Gun Club.
    He lived in Murphys for 32 years.
    Mr. Satterfield is survived by his wife, Pam Satterfield, of Murphys; children, David and wife Sandi Satterfield, of Murphys, and Andrea Satterfield, of Monterey; mother, Wanda Schmutzler, of Jackson; and siblings, Donna Drakos, Sheila and husband Gary Howe, and Phyllis Murphy, all of Jackson; and two grandchildren.
    No service is scheduled.
    Donations can be made to your favorite charity.
    Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.


    ALLEN — Purdita Allen, 83, of Sonora, died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Long-term Care Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
    DAVENPORT — Shelia Davenport, 71, of Sonora, died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
    KARON — Dolly Karon, 71, of Sonora, died Monday at a local health care facility. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
    McLAUGHLIN — Thomas Mclaughlin, 82, of Soulsbyville, died Monday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
