Helen Lillian Kerns
June 20, 1919 — Dec. 14, 2011

    Groveland resident Helen Lillian Kerns died Dec. 14 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 92.
    Born in Omaha, Neb., to George and Emma Hupp, she was a homemaker.
    She moved to Groveland in 1977.
    Mrs. Kerns is survived by her children, Donna Lee Kerns, of Houston, Texas, and Allen Dennis Kerns, of Fresno; grandchildren, Air Force Lt. Brent Allen Kerns, stationed in Guam, and Brian Charles Kerns, of Fresno; and two nieces.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Allen L. Kerns; and siblings, Glenn and Irene Hupp.
    A funeral service is scheduled for noon Thursday at the Groveland Evangelical Free Church, to be followed by a graveside service at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

John Anthony Lord
June 28, 1931 — Dec. 16, 2011

    Sonora resident John Anthony Lord died Dec. 16 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 80.
    Born in Rochdale, England, to Susan and Issacher Lord, he earned his bachelor’s of technical science degree in applied chemistry in 1954. He was later elected associate member of mining and metallurgy in 1961.
    He was a metallurgist research engineer who worked all over the world.
    He especially enjoyed photography and taking pictures.
    Mr. Lord is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Lord, of Sonora; children, Helen Lord, of the Bay Area, and Liz Muniz, of Colorado; grandchildren, Amber Strauch, of Copperopolis, and Preston Spahn and Lance Look, both of Colorado; and three great-grandchildren.
    A service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 21 at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.

Shirley M. Maust
April 21, 1936 — Dec. 17, 2011

    Douglas Flat resident Shirley M. Maust died Dec. 17 at her home. She was 75.
    Born in Somerset County, Pa., to Thelma R. and Warren O. Maust, she graduated from Berlin Area High School in Berlin, Pa., in 1954.
    She served in the Women’s Army Corp.
    She worked for the Persideo Finance Office in San Francisco for 32 years. She lived in Douglas Flat for about 20 years.
    She is survived by her siblings, James Stevenson, of Alden, N.Y., Frank Maust, of Meyersdale, Penn., Wilbur Maust, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Blaine Maust, of Mertle Beach, S.C., Melvin Maust, of Boswell, Penn., Nellie Wolk, of Somerset, Penn., Geneva Folk, of Ravena, Ohio, Mary McGaha, of Frederick, Md., and Karen Stayrook, of Williamsport, Penn.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, W. Joseph and Henry Maust, and Audrey Heiple; brother-in-law, Charles Wolk; and a nephew.
    No service is scheduled.

Jessie Flowers
April 17, 1917 — Dec. 22, 2011

    Twain Harte resident Jessie Flowers died Thursday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 94.
    Born in Mobile, Ala., to Bessie and Grady Long, she was an elementary school teacher for 36 years.
    She lived in Twain Harte for six years.
    She was a member of the Eastern Star and Dolphan Way Baptist Church, both in Mobile, Ala., and the First Baptist Church of Sonora.
    She enjoyed fishing and needlework.
    She is survived by her son, Elbert Flowers Jr., of Twain Harte; and brother, Moses Long, of Newport News, Va.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Flowers Sr.; two brothers and a sister.
    No service is scheduled.
