Robert Emmett Curtin

Robert E. Curtin, of Sonora, died Dec. 18 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 74.
Mr. Curtin was born in Alameda to the late Emmett and Marguerite Curtin. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea and Japan.
A mechanic, he lived in Sonora for 34 years. Family members said his passions were his ‘57 Chevy, coffee at Perko’s and NASCAR.
Mr. Curtin is survived by his wife, Marcia, of Sonora; his children, Janice Stanley, of Placerville and John Curtin and his wife, Amy, of Jamestown; and grandchildren, Raleigh and Jericho Stanley, of Placerville, and Colton and Shelby Curtin, of Jamestown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Louise Curtin.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 28, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery on Lyons Bald Mountain Road.

Sandra Jean ‘Sandy’ Rowes

Sandra Jean “Sandy” Rowes died Dec. 7 at her Soulsbyville home, of a heart attack. She was 55.
She was born in San Jose to Lindell Dagley Anthony and Ramona Jane Anthony. She lived in Sousbyville since 1983.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of animals. She also enjoyed sewing.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Rowes, of Tuolumne; a son, Christopher Codi Nails, of Oklahoma; a sister, Kathy Carlson, of Lodi, and a brother, Lindell Dee Anthony, of Modesto.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jesse Daniel Anthony, and her sister, Terry Lynne Brownell.
Graveside services were held at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora with family officiating. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Former Tuolumne County resident Minnie Margaret Gookin Ures died Dec. 8 at Vacaville Convalescent Hospital. She was 98.
Born in Chinese Camp, to Albert and Rose Segale Gookin, she was the fourth of six children, born to members of pioneer ranching families from the Groveland, Priest-Coulterville and Moccasin areas.
She attended Spring Gulch Grammar School and graduated from Sonora High School in 1931.
She met Mike Ures in Livermore, and the couple married on June 23, 1933, in Reno, Nev.
They lived throughout California while he worked for PG&E. Their son, Mike, was born in Montebello, Los Angeles County.
In 1941, they moved to Vallejo where he worked for the Mare Island shipyard until his retirement.
In 2000, they moved to a care facility in the Fairfield-Vacaville area.
She is survived by her son, Michael Ures, of Oakdale; grandchildren, Wayne Ures, of Paso Robles, Lisa Krach, of Phoenix, and Leah Cook, of Benicia; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ures was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, in 2007; brothers, George, John, Bill and Harry Gookin; and sister, Stella Stubblefield.
No service is scheduled.

HANCOCK — Judith Ann “Judy” Hancock, 69, died Dec. 20 at her Sonora home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sonora Seventh-day Adventist Church. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
TARANGO — Robert Borunda Tarango, 77, of Sonora, died Dec. 15 at the Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center in Modesto. A graveside inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
