Robert Borunda Tarango
Jan. 9, 1934 — Dec. 15, 2011

    Sonora resident Robert Borunda Tarango died Thursday at the Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center in Modesto. He was 77.
    Born in Hastings, Colo., to Marcus and Rosalie Tarango, he grew up working in agriculture alongside his family.
    He moved to Sonora in the late 1950s, and worked for Pickering Lumber Co. in Standard for about 40 years.
    He was married to Margaret Henry for 31 years. After her death in 1991, he went on to marry Julia Rubalcava.
    He enjoyed playing slot machines at the Black Oak Casino and casinos in Nevada, sports, his favorite team being the San Francisco Giants and watching western movies. He was a devout Catholic.
    Mr. Tarango is survived by his second wife of almost 10 years, Julia Rubalcava Tarango, of Modesto; children, Michael Tarango, of Stockton, Anthony Camargo, of Thailand, Mark, Anthony, Michael, Danny and Manuel Rubalcava, and Cindy Posadas, all of Modesto, and Randy Rubalcava, of Santa Cruz; grandchildren, Scarlett Tarango and Riley West, both of Benicia, Emily, Anthony, Carley and Steven Rubalcava, Tamara, Emilio and Jessie Sarabia, Bobby Posadas, Robbie Gonzalez, and Melissa Lopez, all of Modesto, and Mark Rubalcava, of Texas; siblings, Richard Tarango, of Turlock, and Marcus Tarango, of Los Angeles; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Margaret Tarango.
    A graveside inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sonora.

Gloria McDonald
March 16, 1930 — Dec. 16, 2011

    Jamestown resident Gloria McDonald died Friday at Kaiser Hospital in Modesto. She was 81.
    Born in Massillon, Ohio, to Eva Whelton and Jim Koehler, she married Clarence McDonald in 1948 and worked as a licensed vocational nurse for the Massillon State Hospital for 10 years and Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara for 18 years.
    She lived in Sierra Village for 18 years, and Jamestown for 10 years.
    She was a member of the Jamestown United Methodist Church.
    Mrs. McDonald is survived by her husband, Clarence McDonald, of Jamestown; children, Judy Hood, of San Antonio, Texas, Kaye Carr, of Portland, Ore., and James Edward McDonald, of Angels Camp; grandchildren, Michael Carr, of Oakland, Crystal McDonald, of Columbia, and J.J. Carr, of Riverbank; and four great-grandchildren.
    A memorial service is scheduled for noon Jan. 14 at the Rawhide Mobile Home Park Community Center, 8400 Old Melones, Jamestown.
    Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Leonard R. Brooks
May 4, 1925 — Dec. 9, 2011

    Longtime Jamestown resident Leonard R. Brooks died Dec. 9 at Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Transitional Care Unit. He was 86.
    Born in Sonora to Jesse Jackson and Munsel Brooks, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
    After his military service, he went on to work in various capacities in the cattle industry, including buying and feeding cattle, owning a butcher shop, and raising cows and calfs.
    In 1967, his father-in-law, Louis Price, offered him and his wife, Patricia, the opportunity to run the family’s ranch, Price Ranch, which is now the Brooks Ranch. There he breed and raised quarter horses for more than 50 years.
    Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Price Brooks, of Jamestown; children and their spouses, Ron and Gerry Brooks, of Nevada, Lee and Miriam Brooks, of Jamestown, Eileene and Jim Dambacher, of Sonora; stepchildren and their spouses, Price and Barbara Mailloux, of Jamestown, and Deniece Mailloux and Audi Rice, of Burlingame; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Rod and Robert Brooks.
    No service is scheduled.
