Vera LaRue (Duncan) Jones

Tuolumne resident Vera LaRue (Duncan) Jones died Nov. 18 at her home. She was 95.
Mrs. Jones was born Vera LaRue Duncan in Estancia, N.M., as the oldest of four children to Virgil and Daisy Duncan. She was raised in the town of Big Lake, Texas, where she met and married W.T. “Tex” Jones.
The Joneses had two children before moving to San Bruno in the early 1940s. They lived there for 30 years.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker but later owned and operated “LaRue’s Canteen,” a mobile catering business in South San Francisco.
She and her husband moved to Tuolumne County to be with their children in the early 1970s.
Mrs. Jones served several terms on the Tuolumne Park and Recreation Board and helped establish West Side Trail.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Texas, San Bruno and Tuolumne and a Girl Scout leader in San Bruno. She enjoyed square dancing, quilt-making, crafting, walking the West Side Trail, attending Tuolumne’s Concert in the Park series and local senior activities.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, W.T. “Tex” Jones; her parents; three siblings; son-in-law, Tom Grognet; and two grandchildren, Scott Jones and Katie Grognet.
She is survived by her children, Rod Jones, of Tuolumne, Kay Coffee, of Albany, Gwynne Grognet, of Tuolumne, and Kerry Flener, of Oregon; grandchildren, Kimberly van Drielen, of Sonora, Aaron Schooler Nasarow, of Tuolumne, Gwynne Coffee, of Oakland, Heather Jones, of Mariposa, Joel Frantz, of Tuolumne, Mae Frantz, of El Portal, Micah and Andrea Nasarow and Justin Flener, all of Seattle, Wash., Josh Jones, of San Francisco, Emily and Thomas Grognet, both of Tuolumne, Caleb Jones, of Sonora, and Hannah, Naomi and Abigail Jones, all of Tuolumne; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life potluck will be held from 1 and 5 p.m. on Friday at the Tuolumne Veterans Memorial Hall, 18375 Fir Ave.

San Andreas resident Genevieve Lowe died Nov. 14 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital. She was 80.
Mrs. Lowe was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., the daughter of Eva Lena Roland and K.L. Price.
She worked as a program administrative aide for Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. in Sunnyvale for 6 years.
Mrs. Lowe settled in Calaveras County more than 20 years ago.
She enjoyed crafting.
Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her husband, John Lowe.
She is survived by her children, John Lowe II, of Los Angeles, Cindy Lowe, of San Francisco; and one granddaughter.
No services are planned.

SOCCA — John Socca Sr., 80, of Magalia, died Thursday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
WILCOX — Mary Wilcox, of Jamestown, died Friday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
