Vernon Roy DeValle

Vernon Roy DeValle, 81, passed away peacefully at home in Angels Camp with his family by his side on Aug. 4.
Vern was born to Tony and Babe DeValle in Niles, Calif., on Sept. 11, 1932. He was raised in Newark and worked with his parents on their dairy farm and served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Gilmour, of Oakland, Calif.; his six children and their spouses, Susan and Bob Middleton, Julie and Jeff Brunson, Clay and Amanda DeValle, Adam and Julie DeValle, and Holly and Perry Whittle; his sister, Charlotte and her husband, Ralph Sarmento; niece, Sandy and her husband, Steve Fields; and cousin, Randy DeValle and his wife, Wanda.
Vern and Beth moved to Angels Camp in 1973 where he was a partner in Elko Drywall, Tillery’s Drywall and DeValle and Sons Drywall and Insulation. They retired in 2001 where Vern remained active as a founding member of Calaveras County Livestock Boosters, 4-H, FFA, See’s Candy and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Vern’s passion was spending time with his family where he rarely missed his children, 16 grandchildren or two great-grandchildren’s activities.
Vern will be remembered for his integrity, honesty, work ethic and million dollar smile.
A viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Angels Memorial Chapel, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Angels Camp. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Frank Economou, of Sonora, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, in Pleasant Hill, Calif. He was 102.
He was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, and lived in San Francisco for 59 years before moving to Sonora in the 1970s.
His family said he enjoyed square dancing and traveling with friends and family.
He was a member of Sonora Elks Lodge, Masons and Shriners and was a charter member of Sonora Sons in Retirement.
He was survived by his daughter, Patricia Ann Economou, of Woodland, Calif.; two grandchildren, Leslie Keller, of Martinez, Calif., and Cynthia Garner, of Kelseyville, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren, Logan and Sean Breeden, and Andersen, Kayla and Patrick Keller.
No services are scheduled.
