Aug. 8, 1925 — July 31, 2014
Tuolumne resident Marion Eugene “Bud” Kirk died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Sonora Regional Medical Center Long-term Care Unit 6.
He was born in Fords Ferry, Ky., on Aug. 8, 1925, to Homer and Ina Kirk. While attending college at Rockmont Bible College in Denver, Colo., he met his future wife Hazel Siler. They were married on Sept. 20, 1947. They settled in Denver, where they had their first three sons. A few years later the family moved to Leadville, Colo., where Bud became the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Leadville. It was in Leadville that twin boys joined the family.
After moving to Santa Barbara, the last of their six children were born, daughter Kathy.
After moving to Turlock in 1971, Bud and Hazel decided to move to New Jersey to be closer to their son Ed and his family. After retiring in 1991 in New Jersey, the couple moved back to Turlock to join their other children. In 1992, they moved to Alturas where Bud pastored at Alturas Baptist Church for 12 years. After retiring a second time, they moved to Tuolumne to live with their daughter Kathy, and her family.
After his wife Hazel’s passing in 2010, as Bud’s health declined, he moved to the Long-term Care, Unit 6, where he was able to continue his writing and his studies of the Bible, conducted Sunday afternoon service for the residents, ministered to his two previous roommates until their deaths, and enjoyed visits from his friends and family. He loved going out to dinner every Friday night with Randy and Kathy, and being able to come home for holiday visits. Bud loved talking about the Lord and never lost the love of teaching and sharing the word of God with family and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Hazel Kirk. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Larry and Margaret Kirk, of Turlock, Ed and Cheryl Kirk, of Pequannock, N.J., Steven Kirk, of Berkeley, Dan and Julie Kirk, of Ceres, David and Sharon Kirk, of Modesto, and Kathy and Randy Bullock, of Tuolumne; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
