Joan (Girarde) Patrick

Jan. 12, 1934 — Aug. 15, 2014

Joan Patrick passed away on Aug. 15, 2014. Joan was born and raised in Santa Cruz, Calif. On July 25, 1953, she married and shared 61 years with her loving and caring husband, Paul. After they married, they moved to San Luis Obispo where she supported Paul as he attended College and cheered him on as he played baseball. After graduation they moved to East Palo Alto, Sunnyvale and San Bruno, Calif. In 1995, they moved to Mi-Wuk Village to enjoy their retirement.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul; their three adoring children and their loving spouses, David (Karen), of Mesa, Ariz., Paula (Kevin McCarthy), of South San Francisco, and Patricia (Gary Holman), of Sonora; her eight cherished grandchildren, Michael (fiancé Amanda), Laurie (Wayne Gavril), Daniel (Melissa), Sara Patrick, Jeff and Brian McCarthy, Josh and Casey Holman; four precious great-grandchildren, River, Noah, Tatum and Isabella. She also leaves behind her only sister, Jean Ridenbaugh, of Santa Cruz.

She enjoyed attending her class reunions, was the biggest cheerleader for her son in his baseball days and her grandchildren’s sporting events; she was an avid SF Giants and 49er fan.

She loved fishing and, as with every fisherman, had a “Big Fish” story, but hers was true! Joan created a tradition with her grandchildren by taking each one out shopping on their birthdays and lavishing them with gifts, providing them with this sweet memory. Joan made the world’s best potato salad and never passed up a good margarita. Her eyes were sparkly green and people would always comment on how beautiful they were.

Joan loved animals and would make sure to feed the birds, squirrels and deer that came into their yard. She enjoyed dinner at El Jardin in Twain Harte where she considered the staff her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mario P. and Lucy L. Girarde of Santa Cruz.

Thank you to the nurses at Sonora Regional Medical Center for their care, especially Tom, Sandy and Paul. Thank you to Toni for her care and kindness in Joan’s final days.

Her family is overwhelmed with sorrow by her passing, but knows that they have loving memories that will remain in their hearts forever.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home will be handling the cremation arrangements.

No services will be held at Joan’s request.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association Northern California, 2290 N. First St., Suite 101, San Jose, CA 95131.
