Former Twain Harte resident Richard Fenn Carter died Saturday at a Simi Valley care home. He was 92.

He was born in Carterville, Utah, to Adelia Fenn and George Carter. He grew up in Magna, Utah, and played football while attending Cypress High School. He went on to become an avid lifelong sports fan and hunter.

During the Great Depression, he came to California seeking to provide a better life for his family, they said. He became a butcher under Charlie Von der Ahe at the original Von's store in Southern California.

As a member of the Rotary Club of Huntington Park, he achieved a perfect attendance record for more than 40 years and was active in all the club's philanthropic endeavors.

He was most proud of the beautiful family he and his wife, Beatrice, raised in the San Fernando Valley, his family said. Upon retirement, they moved to Twain Harte, where they lived for more than 15 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, any type of card game and cruising the world.

He was blessed with a long life and 62 years of marriage to his wife, his family said, and was surrounded by his loved ones when he died.

He was a good husband, loving father and grandfather, a cherished uncle and a compassionate man, his family said.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Beatrice Elizabeth Carter; two daughters, Sally Quadri and Cheri Carter, both of Simi Valley; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Valeen Carter of Murray, Utah; his grandchildren and their spouses, Jeanne and Craig Chudacoff, Steven and Lucia Quadri, Chris and Brenda Quadri, and Gregg and Kristi Quadri, Kathy and Sam Soehnel, Lisa and Troy Bryant, Cherilyn and Mark McCurdy, Kevin and Robin Carter, Deborah Carter, Greg Carter, and Paul and Judy Hollenbeck; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and his niece and her husband, Bathon and Fred Dessert.
