William Russell ‘Bill’ Barrentine

William Russell “Bill” Barrentine died Aug. 6 at home after a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 58.
Mr. Barrentine was born in Bell in Los Angeles County.
He moved to Sonora with his family in 1990 and opened Bill’s Hilltop Appliance Service after learning and practicing his trade is Southern California for 10 years with Montgomery Ward.
He closed his business in 2008 due to his illness.
He enjoyed family outings in the desert and playing slots at Chicken Ranch and Black Oak casinos.
Mr. Barrentine was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Vanessa Barrentine, of Sonora; his sons, Joseph and his fiancee, Leanna, of Sonora, Joshua and his fiancee, Karsen, of Sonora; his daughter, Christina de Jesus and her husband, Archie, of Norwalk; his siblings and their spouses, Diane and Lee Souders, of Columbia, Susan and Mike Hughes, of Shingle Springs, Nancy and Les Watson, of Fountain Valley, and John Lee Barrentine, of Lakewood; and his grandchildren, Xander Barrentine, of Tuolumne, Ruby de Jesus, of Norwalk, and Ganon Barrentine, of Sonora.
Donations may be made to the Cancer Center at Sonora Regional Medical Center.
A celebration of life will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department.

FRANCO — A memorial service for Richard Andrew “Rick” Franco, 62, of Modesto, formerly of Sonora, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Gervasoni’s Restaurant in Modesto. Donations can be made to the Richard A. Franco Memorial Scholarship, care of Sarjak Enterprises, P.O. Box 3955, Modesto, CA 95352. Mr. Franco was buried alongside his parents at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Jamestown.
