Nik G. Goetschi

March 28, 1931 — July 23, 2003

Longtime Tuolumne resident Nik G. Goetschi died July 23 at his residence. He was 72.

He was born in Alpnach, Switzerland, and lived in Tuolumne for 27 years. He immigrated to Montreal, Canada, in 1956, where he worked for six years. After moving to California and working for various electronic companies, he started his own business, which he sold in 1980.

His family said he loved the Sierra Nevada mountains and his "get-away place" in Tuolumne. He touched many lives with his ingenuity, knowledge, generosity and helping hands, his family added.

Mr. Goetschi is survived by his wife, Heidi; two brothers in Switzerland; a sister in Mill Valley and a sister in New Zealand; and many other relatives and good friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Congregational Church, West Remington Drive and Bernardo Avenue in Sunnyvale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Tuolumne City Memorial Museum, P.O. Box 1174, Tuolumne, CA 95379.

The Neptune Society is handling arrangements.

Margaret H. Wood

Feb. 20, 1912 — Aug. 6, 2003

Longtime Chinese Camp resident Margaret H. Wood died Aug. 6 at a Tucson hospital. She was 91.

She was born in Ohio to Wilber and Leona Haines.

She is survived by a son, Larry Wood of Tucson; three granddaughters, Lin Wood, Lari Macri and Lisa Owen, all of California; and four great-grandchildren, Michael and Jamie Owen and Nicholas and Morgan Macri, all of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde J. Wood.

A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Chinese Camp Cemetery.

Hazel E. Garrett

March 18, 1925 — Aug. 12, 2003

Hazel E. Garrett of Sonora died Tuesday at a Salinas medical center. She was 78.

She was born in Burkesville, Ky. She was a homemaker. She lived in Salinas for 43 years before moving to Sonora 14 years ago.

She was a member of Grace Temple Church in Salinas.

Her family said she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, and her dog, Sarah.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Garrett of Seligman, Mo.; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Patricia and Jerry W. Perkins of Jamestown and Janice and Jan Perkins Sr. of Sonora; three sisters, Nina Levi and Inez Garrett, both of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Dodie Roberts of Clarksville, Ind.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin E. Garrett; a son, Rickey Garrett; and a granddaughter, Kari Love.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Salinas.

Healey Mortuary in Salinas is handling arrangements.


FITZGERALD — Donald Francis Fitzgerald, 82, of Altaville died Friday at a San Andreas hospital. Visitation is scheduled from 1-7 p.m. tomorrow at Angels Memorial Chapel. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the chapel. A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Angels Camp. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

LERCH — Elsie Lerch, 82, of Sonora died Saturday at a Sonora care home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

ADDY — Rita H. Addy, 95, of Groveland died Saturday at a Sonora care home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

BALL — Alice T. Ball, 96, of Sonora died yesterday at an Oakdale care home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

JORGENSON — Van Jorgenson, 89, of Columbia died this morning at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

HATTON — Ralph Hatton, 66, of Twain Harte died Friday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
