Harold William ‘Chief’ Redshaw

March 1, 1920 — Aug. 12, 2012

Sonora resident Harold William “Chief” Redshaw died Sunday at home. He was 92.

Mr. Redshaw was born in Bettendorf, Iowa, to Frank and Nellie Redshaw.

He met Betty Maxine Showalter at Gettert’s Roller Rink in 1941. They wed Oct. 16, 1943.

In 1959 they moved to California and retired to Sonora in April 1996.

Mr. Redshaw briefly worked for a 7-UP manufacturer in Tipton, Iowa before beginning a career as a tool and die maker. He worked at Uchdorff Co. in Davenport. He later worked as a salesman for Everett-Charles Inc. in Pomona. He retired as their trade show manager in 1985.

He was a member of Sons in Retirement and a 65-year member of the Trinity Masonic Lodge.

He was a skilled woodworker and received several first place awards for his craft. He continued to make furniture and wood pieces for his family even after being diagnosed with macular degeneration. 

He enjoyed traveling the United States with his wife.

Mr. Redshaw was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Earl Redshaw, in 1984.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Redshaw, of Sonora; his daughter, Susan Redshaw Russel and her husband, John, of Sonora; and her grandson, Evan Russel, of Yosemite.

Donations can be made to Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, 95370. 

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Carters Cemetery in Tuolumne.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

Marie C. Stahn

May 12, 1923 — Aug. 10, 2012

Sonora resident Marie C. Stahn died Aug. 10 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 89.

Mrs. Stahn was born in San Fernando Valley.

She moved to Sonora in 1982 after retiring from the Balboa Golf Course where she worked for more than 20 years.

She enjoyed playing bingo, cards and occasional trips to the casino.

She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Dragecevich, of Sonora; her sister, Jeanette Johnson, of Antioch; her grandchildren and their spouses, Carl Dragecevich, of Sonora, Cindy and Don Kern, of Oakland, and Toni and Damon Franklin, of Ohio; two great-grandchildren; one niece; and numerous other relatives.

No services are planned at this time.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
