Richard Andrew ‘Rick’ Franco
April 26, 1950 — July 30, 2012
Modesto resident Richard Andrew “Rick” Franco died July 30 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He was 62.
Mr. Franco was born in Jamestown to Pete and Ruby Franco.
He was a top athlete and valedictorian in the Sonora High School Class of 1968.
He served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army.
Franco later settled in Modesto, where he was a businessman and investor for nearly 40 years.
He enjoyed fishing, thoroughbred horse racing and supporting local sports teams.
Mr. Franco was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his fiancee, Lindi Farmer, of Modesto; two children, Jake Franco and his wife, Amy, of London, England; and Sarah Franco, of San Diego; two grandchildren, Mia Franco, of London England, and Chase Messersmith, of San Diego; his brother, Larry Franco, and his wife, Cindy, of Thousand Oaks; and one niece and two nephews.
Donations can be made to the establishment of a Richard A. Franco Memorial Scholarship in care of Farjak Enterprises, P.O. 3955 Modesto, CA, 95352.
Private family services were held.

VARNER — Mae Varner, 83, of Sonora, died Thursday as Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
