Charlie Carl Armario
Jan. 13, 1926 — Aug. 2, 2011

    Lifelong Soulsbyville resident Charlie Carl Armario died Aug. 2 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 85.
    Born in Soulsbyville to Lorenzo and Caterina Armario, he was one of five children. He attended Soulsbyville Elementary School and Sonora High School but left because his father needed him to work on the family’s apple orchard.
    He went on to drive a logging truck and then a lumber truck for LS Jones. He later became an owner and operator of a low-bed truck, which he drove until his retirement.
    After his retirement, he still continued to work as a truck driver until 2003.
    He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Masons, Sonora Volunteer Fire Department, Shriners and the Italian Club.
    Mr. Armario is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emma Armario, of Soulsbyville; children, Kathy Lee, of Oakdale, Don Armario, of Knights Ferry, and Jeannette Armario, of Texas; grandchildren, Jamie Armario, of Pleasanton, Dena Silovic, of Santa Clara, Michael Armario, of Sonora, Donald and Alex Lee, both of Oakdale, and Leah and Jenna Armario, both of Knights Ferry; siblings, Enis Marion, of Soulsbyville, and Jennie Rodgers, of Sonora; and five great-grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Carl Armario, and siblings, Josephine Whitt Armario and Joseph Armario.
    A service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sonora Elks Lodge, 100 Elk Drive, Sonora.
    Donations can be made to the Sonora Regional Medical Center Foundation, 100 Greenley Road, Sonora, CA 95370, or to a favorite charity.
    Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Calvin
Arthur Olson
May 17, 1926 — Aug. 3, 2011

    Sonora resident Dr. Calvin Arthur Olson died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Transitional Care Unit. He was 85.
    Born in Mussoorie, India, to parents who were missionaries, he graduated from Loma Linda University’s School of Medicine in 1951 and went on to complete his residency in general and thoracic surgery at the White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles.
    After his residency he served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
    In 1962, he and his family moved to Tokyo, Japan, where he was the chief surgeon in a missionary hospital for four years.
    In 1966, after spending three months in a mission hospital in Saigon during the Vietnam War, the family moved to Singapore, where Dr. Olson was the chief surgeon for five years at Youngberg Memorial Hospital.
    In 1971, he and his family moved to Sonora when he began working as a physician and surgeon at the Sonora Medical Group. He retired from the Medical Group and Sonora Community Hospital in 1998.
    He enjoyed gardening and Bible study.
    Dr. Olson is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alyse Olson, of Sonora; children, Eric and wife Marti Olson, of Munich, Germany, Karen Johnson, of College Place, Wash., Robert and wife Michelle Olson, of Spokane, Wash., Bill Olson and partner Ray Toney, of San Diego, and Donna Olson, of Sonora; grandchildren, Laura Olson, of Oakland, Kristen and husband Andy Hanson, of Walla Walla, Wash., Erik Johnson, of Medford, Ore., Ashley and Zachary Olson, both of Spokane, Wash., Brandon and wife Christina Terrell, and Curtis Terrell, all of Sonora; and siblings, Robert and wife Lorraine Olson, of North Carolina, and Gertrude Peterson, of Sonora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 40 N. Forest Road, Sonora.

Peggy
Joann Brune
Feb. 6, 1935 — Aug. 2, 2011

    Former Sonora resident Peggy Joann Brune died Aug. 2 at the Country Villa Riverview Rehab and Healthcare Center in Susanville. She was 76.
    Born in Mountain View, Okla., to David Owen and Etoiley Deaton, she moved to Tuolumne County when she was 12 and attended Sonora High School.
    She was a homemaker and worked for the Tuolumne County Recorder’s Officer for a number of years before she and her husband moved to Oakdale in the late 1970s.
    She and her husband later moved to Susanville in 2001.
    She enjoyed going to yard sales and secondhand shops.
    Mrs. Brune is survived by her husband of 58 years, Timothy J. Brune, of Susanville; children, Melody Brawley and Paul Brune, both of Susanville, and Anthony “Tony” Brune, of Shafter; sister, Betty Stoddard, of Greybull, Wyo.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Charlotte Johnson and Kenneth Deaton.
    No service is scheduled.
    Waltons Colonial Mortuary in Susanville is handling arrangements.
