Virginia (Wolf) Collins

Feb. 21, 1926 — July 31, 2013

Former Tuolumne County resident Virginia (Wolf) Collins died July 31 at her home in Rio Vista. She was 87.

Mrs. Collins was born Virginia Wolf in Oregon to Mabel and William Wolf.

She moved from Oregon to California when she was 16.

She married John M. Collins on April 4, 1942.

She was a homemaker for 67 years.

She lived in Tuolumne County for 30 years before moving to Rio Vista less than a year ago. 

Mrs. Collins was a member of the Assemblies of God Church and enjoyed reading and music. She was involved with women’s ministries and volunteered at Sonora Community Hospital.

Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband in 2010.

She is survived by her children, John Collins Jr., and his wife, Cheryl, of Hayward, David Collins, of Newport, N.C., Deborah Mogianesi, of Rio Vista, Janice Collins, of Placerville, and Kathy Levine, of New Jersey. 

No services are planned.

Greg Pitcher

March 1, 1947 — July 29, 2013

Former Tuolumne County resident Greg Pitcher died July 29 at his home in Pioneer. He was 66.

Mr. Pitcher was born in Oakland to Richard and Norma (Sharp) Pitcher.

He served in the U.S. Army, Navy and Coast Guard Reserves for 33 years. 

He was a patrol officer for the California Highway Patrol for 31 years, serving in Tuolumne County his last 17 years. 

Mr. Pitcher is survived by his companion, Suzette Heinrich, of Pioneer; sons, Richard Pitcher, of Sonora, and Christopher Pitcher, of Reno, Nev.; grandchildren, Kamryn Pitcher, of Sonora, and Caleb Pitcher and Emily Pitcher, of Reno.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 7 at Sutter Creek Church of the Nazarene, 14050 Ridge Road, Sutter Creek. RSVP at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Tommy Rhoades

May 6, 1942 — Aug. 15, 2013

Sonora resident Tommy Rhoades died Aug. 15 at his home. He was 71.

Mr. Rhoades was born in Yuba City to T.J. and Ruby Rhoades. 

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 until 1971. 

He lived in Valley Springs for 30 years before settling in Sonora in April.

Mr. Rhoades worked as a grocery store clerk for 28 years until retiring in 1997. 

He was a member of the Harvest Fellowship Church in Sonora. He enjoyed classic cars and boats. 

Mr. Rhoades was preceded in death by his son, Scott Rhoades, in 1967.

He is survived by his children, Stephen Rhoades and his wife, Barbara, of Sonora, and Jeff Rhoades, of Stockton; sister, Judy Putt, of Elk Grove; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Harvest Fellowship Church, 19270 Hillsdale Drive, Sonora.

GOMEZ — Laura Gomez, 62, of Sonora, died Sunday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  

LIVINGSTON — Kenneth Livingston, 57, of Sonora died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

MAZZAFERRO — James Mazzaferro, 89, of Sonora, died Saturday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  

ROMO — Felix Romo, 78, of Sonora, died Sunday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  

SCHAFER — Former Sonora resident Luella Schafer, 77, of Carson City, Nev., died Saturday at her daughter’s home in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  

SCOTT — Frank Scott, 77, of Sonora, died Saturday at Lincoln Square Post Acute Rehabilitation in Stockton. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
