Lawrence Anthony ‘Larry’ Benevides

March 22, 1932 — Aug. 9, 2013

Coulterville resident Lawrence Anthony “Larry” Benevides died Friday at Country Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Modesto. He was 81. 

Mr. Benevides was born in Oakland to Frank and Minnie Benevides. 

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1954. He was honored for his service to the national defense, Korea and United Nations. 

He worked as a carpet salesman in Sonora for a number years. 

He settled in Coulterville 15 years ago. 

Mr. Benevides enjoyed singing karaoke and listening to his favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants, play on the radio. 

Mr. Benevides was preceded in death by his father, Frank Costa Benevides, in 1979; and his mother, Minnie Benevides, in 1961.

He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Betty C. Benevides, of Coulterville; his children, Steve Benevides, of Antioch, Mark Benevides, of Chicago, Ill., and Kimberly O’Hara, of Hayward; six stepchildren, Donna Formanek, of Washington, Debra Moreno, of Washington, Martin Reyes, of San Francisco, Steven Palmer, of Sparks, Nev., Patricia Palmer, of Hayward, and Mark Sommarstrom, of Soulsbyville; eight grandchildren, Alexander “Alex” Benevides, of Concord, Lydia Benevides, of San Jose, Patrick O’Hara, Kenny O’Hara and Joshua O’Hara, all of Hayward, Mark Sommarstrom, of Sonora, Patrick Sommarstrom, of Coulterville, and Kristen Sommarstrom, of Soulsbyville.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Coulterville Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Coulterville Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, 5019 Main St.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

DeLAITRRE — Robert DeLaittre, 73, of Sonora, died Sunday at his residence. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

GOODSON — William Goodson, 22, of Sonora, died Sunday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

KOEPPEL — Christie Koeppel, 57,  Sonoma and Cedar Ridge died Saturday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

RATLIFF — Silsby Ratliff, 78, of Jamestown, died Saturday at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
