Barbara Joan Drake
July 7, 1932 — July 3, 2013
Sonora resident Barbara Joan Drake died July 3 at Valley Medical Center in Pleasanton. She was 80.
Mrs. Drake was born in Amityville, N.Y., to Robert and Margaret Drake.
She attended grammar school in Bellmore before moving to California and graduating from Whittier High School.
She married Jim Gibson in 1955. They and their two children moved to Sonora in 1960 to be closer to family.
They owned and operated the Mono Vista Garage until 1964.
She then worked in banks including Mother Lode Bank, Fidelity and Wells Fargo, before joining the Tuolumne County Clerk’s Office, from which she retired in 1988.
She enjoyed going to the casino, word puzzles and being involved with county politics and writing letters to politicians.
Mrs. Drake was a long-time member of the Sonora Emblem Club, where she held many offices, including “fourth state vice president” and chaired different committees.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and former husband, Jim Gibson, in May 2007.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Rob and Anita Gibson, of Sonora, and Lisa and Denis Vian, of Pleasanton; grandson, Ryan Gibson, of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Mitch Tatum, of Pico Rivera; and former sister-in-law, Betty Smith, of Sonora; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dec. 23, 1946 — July 30, 2013
Groveland resident Eileen Pacier died July 30 of natural causes at her home. She was 66.
Ms. Pacier was born in Jamaica, N.Y., to Frank and Marie Pacier.
She moved with her family to Saratoga, Calif., in 1957 and earned a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University.
Ms. Pacier worked as a registered seed technologist for Ferry Morse and Del Monte before returning to San Jose State for her master’s degree in biology.
She taught at De Anza Jr. College for 15 years.
Ms. Pacier worked briefly for the National Park Service in Yosemite which inspired her interest in the outdoors.
She enjoyed camping in the desert, exploring tide pools, California native plant gardening, folk music, reading and sewing.
Upon retirement, she enjoyed drawing and painting in local art classes and served as a docent at the Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum.
Ms. Placier was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Lupe Pacier, of Anaheim; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Dick DiSalvo, of Greenwood, Jean and Daryl Schwald, of Boulder Creek, Joanmarie Pacier, of Los Gatos; and goddaughter Rebecca Oehler, of Los Gatos.

A celebration of life has been held.

R. Dennis Snow
Feb. 2, 1945 — Aug. 2, 2013
Angels Camp resident R. Dennis Snow died on Aug. 2 at his home. He was 68.
Mr. Snow was born in Blair, Neb., to Arlene and Chester Snow.
He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Oriskany in Vietnam during the mid-1960s.
After his service he settled in the Bay Area, where he worked as union millwright for 25 years before settling in Angels Camp 28 years ago.
He was member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2600 in San Andreas and was a member of the Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Norma Snow, of Angels Camp; son Bob Davis, of Tekamah, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery 32053 McCabe Road, Santa Nella.
