Rose Eleta Davis

Aug. 24, 1920 — April 5, 2014

Rose Eleta Davis, of Sonora, passed away on Saturday, April 5. She was 93.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson.

A celebration of life for Rose will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Sonora Seventh-day Adventist Church, 40 N. Forest Road, Sonora. 

Thelma Althea  Tomlin 

April 14, 1926 — March 27, 2014

Daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grammy and friend, Thelma has passed from our lives. A wonderful and gracious lady who touched and enriched the lives of all who met her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abner and Vivian Nelms; her husband of 53 years, Buster Tomlin; daughter, Judith Larra Tomlin; granddaughter, Tracy Lee Tomlin Frazel; and loving brothers, Leo, Glen and Alfred Nelms. We entrust her to their care.

She is survived by sons Kenneth Tomlin, Robert Tomlin and Richard Tomlin, and daughters, Donna Tomlin and Tanya Tomlin, all of Sonora; her brother, Bill Nelms, and sister-in-law, Ann Nelms, of Bakersfield; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

To the wonderful and caring staff of SRMC ‘s Unit 6 “Thank you, you are wonderful.”

Also a thank you to Hospice for their support and guidance.

Graveside services have been held. Heuton Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements. 

May our mother’s goodness be remembered and shared. 

Konstantinos ‘Gus’
C. Laios

Dec. 19, 1942 — April 5, 2014

Longtime Sonora resident Konstantinos “Gus” Laios passed away in Sonora on April 5, 2014. He was 71.

He was born in Metaxa, Kozani, Greece, on Dec. 19, 1942.

Gus served in the Greek Army for two years. He left Greece at the age of 23 and moved to Germany, where he worked at a Volkswagen factory for three years. From there he moved to Toronto, Canada, where he lived for three years. Gus moved to the United States in 1971. After living in many different places, he settled in Sonora where he would spend the remainder of his life.

Gus enjoyed spending time outside and cutting wood. 

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Laios; his children and their spouses, Stephanie and Tim Allen, of Ripon, Michelle and Rick Febre, of McKinleyville, Stacy and John Giesler, of Oakdale, and Chris and Jenny Laios, of Sonora; grandchildren, Hanah Allen, Phillip Allen, Kelliann Laios, Wyatt Laios, Maggie Laios and Eman Febre; cousin, Jim Karagiannes, of New Jersey; brother, Nikos Laios; and sisters, Maria and Theodosia, of Greece; and many nieces and nephews in Greece.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at the Journey Church.

Charlotte Hankins

March 20, 1918 — April 5, 2014

Charlotte Hankins passed away at the age of 96 at Avalon Care Center on April 5.

Charlotte was born in Whittier, Calif., to Charles and Mildred Waer and raised in La Habra, Calif. 

She was a resident of Tuolumne County for 37 years, having moved from La Habra.

Charlotte married Carl Hankins on Nov. 10, 1935.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mildred Waer; husband of 59 years, Carl Hankins; sisters, Elsie Young and Thelma Camden; and brothers, Virgil Waer and Harry Waer.

Charlotte was a homemaker. She loved to cook and bake. She was a terrific pie baker. She enjoyed working in the yard. She loved music and enjoyed playing the organ and piano.

Charlotte is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Georgia Hankins, of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Bob and Marie Hankins, of Sonora; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren in several states.

California Cremation Society is handling arrangements. A family gathering is planned at a later date.

MEEK — Jeramiah Joe Meek, 29, of Clear Lake and Sonora, died April 1 at his brother’s home in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

STRAHLE — Maynard Mel Strahle, 82, of Columbia, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Neptune Society of Central California is handling arrangements.
