Jessica Luce

June 2, 1945 — April 2, 2003

Jessica Luce, 57, of Tuolumne died Wednesday at her home.

Mrs. Luce was born in Bonanza, Ore., and had lived in Tuolumne for the past 30 years.

She was a psychiatric technician for Tuolumne County for 31 years, the past five of those years at Kings View Mental Health.

Several years ago, she battled cancer. She was an artist and donated some of her work to charity. One of those pieces is displayed at Summerville Elementary School. Her family said Disney once offered her a job as an artist, but she turned it down.

She loved gardening and the outdoors. Her family said she was a loving grandmother.

Mrs. Luce is survived by her husband, William Luce of Tuolumne; two sons, William Dean Luce of Sonora and Jeffrey Allen Luce of Elk Grove and his wife, DeLynn Luce of Sonora; two daughters, Tammy Bloodworth of Farmington, Mo., and Mary Ellen Luce and her fiance, Scott Fishel of Sonora; a brother, Lawrence Meachem of Athens, Ga.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Sunny June Decker of Red Bluff and Mary Jo and Deforest Malin and Melissa Willison, all of Sonora; a grandson, Corey Allen Shirk of Sonora; a granddaughter, Tyler Rebecca Luce of Sonora; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery, Sonora.

March 3, 1922 — April 4, 2003

Jerry Wallace Caywood, 81, of Groveland died Friday at a Hayward care home.

Mr. Caywood was born in Sedalia, Mo., and had lived in Groveland for the past 14 years. Before he moved to Groveland, he lived in Oakland for 51 years.

He owned and operated Caywood Upholstery on Mission Boulevard, Hayward, for 40 years.

He was a member of Christian Motorcycle Association, and his family said he loved motorcycles. He attended Groveland Evangelical Free Church. He also had served as a Boy Scouts of America leader when his sons were young.

His hobbies were traveling in his motorhome and camping.

Mr. Caywood is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lucille Caywood of Groveland; two sons, Larry Caywood of San Leandro and Carry Caywood of Monterey; three stepsons, Dwaine Frybarger and Alan Constant, both of San Francisco and Ray St. John of Prague, Czech Republic; one stepdaughter, Kathie Casper of Capitan, N.M.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ross Caywood of Anaheim; and three sisters, Mildred Rogers of Downey, Los Angeles County, Alberta Ruthrauf of Apple Valley, San Bernardino County, and Leanna Chesterton of Rosemead, Los Angeles County.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde, Marvin and Edmond Caywood.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon tomorrow, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, both at Groveland Evangelical Free Church. A graveside service will be held after visitation at Oak Grove Cemetery, Groveland.

GORGAS — An informal celebration of life for Tuolumne County attorney Ed Gorgas, 77, who died Thursday at a Palo Alto hospital, will be held from 1-6 p.m. Thursday at the Sonora Elks Lodge, 100 Elk Drive in Sonora.

MCKEEVER — Jesse McKeever, 68, of Big Oak Flat died Saturday at his home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

KLERK — Nathan Klerk, 96, of Angels Camp died Saturday at a San Andreas convalescent hospital. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

MATNEY — Ysabel Mariana Matney, 78, of Sonora died Saturday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
