Mi-Wuk Village resident Charlene Barrette died March 16 at her daughter’s home in Albany, Ore. She was 82.
Mrs. Barrette was born in Ringling, Okla., the daughter of Charles and Willie (Elms) Griffin. She moved to Portland, Ore., with her mother at age 12. She graduated from Washington High School in Portland in 1947, and University of Portland with a nursing degree in 1952.
Mrs. Barrette spent her 40-plus year nursing career as an operating room nurse. Then in her retirement, she was active in the Mi-Wuk Village Fire Women’s Auxiliary.
She married John Barrette, a Sonora basketball coach, Aug. 4, 1967, in Pacific Grove.
She is survived by her step-daughters Kathy Hulburt, of Albany, Ore., Julie Jones, of Ferndale, Wash., and Elizabeth Barrette, of Fort Collins, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Barrette was preceded in death by her husband, John Barrette; and her sister, Dorothy Warnick.
Services to be held at a later date.

Shirley (Swars) Lutes
July 19, 1935 — March 29, 2012
Longtime Copperopolis resident Shirley (Swars) Lutes died March 29 at her home. She was 76.
Mrs. Lutes was born in Oakland and lived in Copperopolis for 28 years. She worked in data entry for an electronics manufacturer for eight years.
She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Lake Tulloch Quilters club.
Mrs. Lutes is survived by her husband, Gary Lutes, of Copperopolis; sons, Gregory Lutes, of Elk Grove, Donald Lutes, of Bethel Island, and Douglas Lutes, of Elk Grove; her brother, Kenneth Swars, of Mehama, Ore.; sisters, Arlene Reeves, of Plymouth, Wash., and Beverly Pelkey, of Tacoma, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Heuton Memorial Chapel, with a graveside service to follow at 2 p.m. at Copperopolis Cemetery.

ORR — Sandra Orr, 66, of Sonora, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center Long Term Care. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
POWELL — Dolores Powell, 81, of Sonora, died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
