Dalean Helen Harris
Sept. 24, 1937 — April 21, 2014
Dalean Helen Harris, born Sept. 24, 1937, to Dale and Zelma Drew, passed away April 21, 2014, in Sonora.
Dalean wore many hats in life: wife, mother, grammie, sister, aunt, friend, herbalist and business owner. She was also known as “The Hat Lady’ in Sonora for her Sunchaser hats.
As a child she was active on the Mira Loma family farm along with her brothers and sisters. Just as her parents passed to her the love of growing plants and flowers, appreciation and enjoyment of the outdoors, music, and cooking, she passed these things along to her children.
After high school she went to work for American Airlines in Los Angeles. During this time she met and married her first husband, Jerry Mayfield. Together they had four children. Later they divorced and Dalean met and fell in love with Wilson (Bill) Harris. Dalean and Bill shared a love of antique collectables and cars. They enjoyed traveling with Stanley Steam car clubs on tours as well as participating in parades.
Dalean owned an antique business for many years. Dalean was a herbalist for more than 30 years and took great pride in being able to help people to live a life of wellness. She owned a shop in Fremont with two of her friends called Herbs N Such. Upon moving to Sonora in 2001 Dalean and Bill could often be seen out searching for treasure at flea markets and yard sales.
She is survived by her husband Bill; children and their spouses, Steven and Terry, Gregory and Annette, Jeniffer and Andy and Neal; grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathon and Angela, Jeremy, Rene, Denise, Susan and Andrew; six great-grandchildren, her siblings and their spouses, Shirley, Dale and Alice, Charles and Vivian, Beverly; and nieces, nephews and many cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 4 p.m. at the Mounted Dream Center, 20440 Sunny Ridge Lane, Sonora, CA 95370.
