Gertrude Maria ‘Trudi’ (Jansen) Brenon
June 9, 1924 — April 12, 2012
Sonora resident Gertrude Maria “Trudi” (Jansen) Brenon died April 12 at Avalon Care Center. She was 87.
Mrs. Brenon was born in Kenosha, Wis., and was an actress in Hollywood for 20 years. She and her husband, Donald Brenon, retired to Sonora in 1963. They opened Brenon’s Western Store in downtown Sonora. They were active at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mrs. Brenon played Ma Dalton in the 1979 film “The Last Ride of the Dalton Gang.”
Mrs. Brenon was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Gertrude Jansen.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Donald Brenon, of Sonora.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tuolumne.
A donation in his name may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
David Rector ‘Dave’ Sampson

Longtime Tuolumne resident David Rector “Dave” Sampson died April 12 at his home. He was 84.
Mr. Sampson was born in Bearden, Okla., moved to California with his family as a baby and lived in Tuolumne for 47 years. He grew up on his parents’ farm on the outskirts of Modesto and joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, shortly before the war ended.
He worked as a cowboy and helped his father establish a ranch near Vallecito. He married Patricia Hopping. He worked in logging but ended up being a land surveyor for most of his life. He enjoyed being in the woods and, after retirement, lived in a remote cabin with no utilities for almost 20 years.
He enjoyed reading and attended church each Sunday with his family.
Mr. Sampson was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Sampson, in 1999.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Clea Sampson, of Sonora; his daughter, Rebecca Scott, of Milan, Mo.; grandchildren Daniel and Joshua Howard, of Milan, Scarlet and Dennis James, of Montana, Amy and Timothy Hicks, of Idaho, and Sirena and Rosanna Sampson, of Sonora; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters Pat Cowles, of Placerville and Margaret Mathews, of Connecticut.
A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 14892 Peaceful Valley Road, Sonora.

Annabelle Grace DeStigter

Twain Harte resident Annabelle Grace DeStigter died April 9 at a Modesto hospital. She was 16 days old.
Annabelle is survived by her parents, Carly De-Stigter and Joshua Lillis, of Twain Harte; her godparents, Morgan and Shauna Larwick; cousins Danielle Jackson and Nowell Hays; and her grandmother, Charmaine DeStigter.
Services have been held. Burial was at Carters Cemetery in Tuolumne.
