Charles Indio Drushal

April 19, 1939 — April 8, 2012

Charles Indio Drushal died Sunday at his home in Paloma. He was 72.

Mr. Drushal was born on April 19, 1939, in Michigan. He grew up in Michigan and started moving around at the age of 18, living mostly in Florida until 1940 when he moved to San Francisco. He moved to Calaveras County in 1989.

He has an adopted daughter, Donna Dause, of West Point, and an adopted granddaughter, Crystal Dause, of West Point.

He is survived by Pauline Neilsen, his adoptive mother, of Paloma. 

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at San Andreas Memorial Chapel, followed at 3 p.m. by a funeral service at the chapel and graveside service at People’s Cemetery in San Andreas.

Jack Carley

Sept, 2, 1934 — March 23, 2012

San Andreas native Jack Robert Carley died March 23 at his San Andreas residence after a short battle with lung cancer. He was 77.

He was born on Sept. 2, 1934, the son of Madelon Jack Carley and George Cooper Carley. He was the fifth generation of the Jack/Casey families in Calaveras County.

He graduated from Calaveras High School in 1953 and became a forklift operator for Rasmussen Lumber Mill. He went to work at Calaveras Cement in 1961 and was there until he was laid off in December 1982 when they stopped production of cement and began the process of closing the San Andreas plant.

For the next 13 years, he worked as millwright at Sierra Pacific Industries in Tuolumne County. 

His family said he enjoyed fast cars, NASCAR, the San Francisco 49ers and gambling. After his retirement, he enjoyed going to the Jackson Rancheria Casino, where his winnings included a computer, a motorcycle and a 1999 Camaro, which he drove until suffering a stroke in 2005.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carley is was preceded in death by a brother, Donn Carley.

He is survived by his children, Steve Carley, of San Andreas, Lorie Wade and her husband, Larry, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Jackie Root and her husband, Roger, of Pine Grove, and twins Christy Erwin and her husband, Dustin, of San Francisco, and Cherie “Misty” Caley, of Sacramento; his brother, James “Duke” Carley and his wife, Annie, of Walnut Creek; his sister, Carolyn Soderstrum, of Santa Cruz; and seven grandchildren.

Services have been held.

The family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras, 1500 S. Highway 49, No. 205, Jackson, CA 95642 or call 223-5500.

Richard Kline

June 11, 1947 — April 6, 2012

Richard Kline, of Arnold, died April 6 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 64.

Mr. Kline was born in Kansas, the son of Jack and Cecilia Kline. He worked as a marble mason and in construction and was a resident of Arnold for six years.

He served in the U.S. Army in 1967 and 1968. He was a member of the Arnold Moose Lodge and Lake Arrowhead Elks Lodge. His hobbies included traveling and riding his Harley-Davidson.

Mr. Kline is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Patricia Kline, of Arnold; and two nieces.

No services are scheduled.

Linda (Affeldt) Tuana

Oct. 31, 1962 — March 30, 2012

Arnold resident Linda (Affeldt) Tuana died March 30 at her home. She was 49.

Mrs. Tuana was born in Hayward and lived in Arnold for 27 years.

She worked in retail sales, including at McCloud’s Pet Emporium in Angels Camp, and enjoyed shopping.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Tuana, of Arnold; parents Bruce and Patricia Affeldt of Stagecoach, Nev.; her son, Nicholas Tuana, of Arnold; and her sister, Debra Tiffin, of Arnold.

No services will be held.

Riva ‘June’ Keir

Aug. 25, 1928 — April 5, 2012

Riva “June” Keir, died April 5 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. She was 83.

She was born in San Francisco, the daughter of David and Edith Gold.  She was a telephone switchboard operator for 30 years in South San Francisco. She and her partner, Bill Boychuk, moved to Sonora 14 years ago.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, and her interests included reading and puzzles.

She was preceded in death by two children, Don and Stephanie,

She is survived by her partner, Bill Boychuk, of Sonora; two sons, Phillip Strand, of Stockton, and Duane Strand, of Florida; and four grandchildren.

No services are scheduled.

Tom Shelley

Oct. 14, 1936 — April 1, 2012

Mountain Ranch resident Tom Shelley died April 1 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was 75.

Mr. Shelley was born in Colt, Ark., and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at 18. He was stationed at Lowry Air Force base in Denver, Colo.

In 1954, he met Norma Golnitz and they married in 1955. In 1956, while serving in France, their son Randy was born.

Mr. Shelley was a veteran of the Korean War and was discharged in 1957. He and his family moved to Los Angeles, where Mr. Shelley worked building travel trailers.

In 1958, he became an apprentice book binder in San Francisco. In 1964 the family settled in San Jose and in 1989 Mr. Shelley began commuting back and forth, to build their home in Mountain Ranch.

Mr. Shelley retired in 1992 after 30 years as a book binder. He enjoyed fishing, camping waterskiing and tending his garden. He was a member of the Foothill Evangelical Lutheran Church in Valley Springs.

He is survived by his wife Norma Shelley, of Mountain Ranch; children and their spouses, Randy and Stephanie and Dee Ann and Wayne; grandchildren Jason and his wife Jeanne, Jennifer, Beau and Jamie; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary, of Lincoln, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shelley was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie Shelley; and sisters Barbara and Millie.

No services are scheduled.
