The Sonora Police Department reported the following:


7:54 a.m., accident — A fire engine backed into a pole at the City of Sonora public works yard at School Street.

9:54 a.m., harassment — A man received phone calls from people saying he won items and needed to send them money.

12:55 p.m., theft — Alcohol was stolen from a business on Restano Way.

1:56 p.m., theft — A wallet was stolen at a store on the 1100 block of Sanguinetti Road.

3:42 p.m., trespass — A woman believed someone was in her house on April 19. Nothing was taken, but the door and fence were ajar and her dog was injured.

4:23 p.m., trespass — A man said someone has been entering his home on North Washington Street.

The Sheriff’s Office reported the following: 


7:58 a.m., Tuolumne — A car was on fire in a driveway on the 19000 block of Carter Street.

8:05 a.m., Jamestown — A 14-year-old boy was bitten on his leg by his neighbor’s dog on the 17700 block of Woods Way.

8:56 a.m., Groveland — A security light was vandalized on the 19600 block of Golden Rock Circle.

10:59 a.m., Crystal Falls — A backpack containing $100 worth of school textbooks was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on the 21200 block of Crystal Falls Drive.

11:07 a.m., Twain Harte — Items were stolen from a residence on the 23800 block of Sierra Pine Avenue.

11:15 a.m., Columbia — A vacation home on the 11400 block of Highway 49 was burglarized.

1:45 p.m., Jamestown — Fishing gear, a wallet and other items were stolen from a vehicle at Tulloch Dam and Tulloch roads.

2:42 p.m., Sonora area — A woman on the 21300 block of Hunts Road said someone has been using her Social Security number.

5:50 p.m., Tuolumne — A 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of violation of a protective order on the 20000 block of Tuolumne Road North.

6:41 p.m., East Sonora — A man was panhandling and trying to sell items on the 19500 block of Hess Avenue. He was also seen possibly stealing items from a vehicle.

7:09 p.m., Sonora area — A small LED flashlight was stolen from a vehicle on the 17100 block of Valley Oak Drive.

11:35 p.m., Jamestown — A 47-year-old man was arrested on out-of-county warrants at a business on the 18300 block of Highway 108. 


2:44 a.m., Jamestown — A man was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant after he was pulled over on the 18400 block of Fifth Avenue for having a headlight out.

Felony bookings


3:41 a.m., Tuolumne — David Timothy Kuffler, 24, a transient, was booked on suspicion of bringing drugs into a prison or jail after an arrest at Oak and Rozier streets. He was also booked on misdemeanor charges of prowling, possession of marijuana under one ounce and domestic battery. 


Cited on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs:



12:44 a.m., Jamestown — Marcus Shawn Schwil, 21, of the 10500 block of Acorn Lane, Angels Camp, was booked after an arrest at Highway 49 and Preston Lane. 

5:54 p.m., Sonora — James Edward Benites, 67, of the 300 block of Snell Street, was booked after an arrest on Lyons Bald Mountain Road. He was also booked on misdemeanor charges of driving with a suspended license and being under the influence of drugs.


5:03 a.m., Sonora — Trevor Jay Stanley Saltzman, 18, of the 4900 block of Yuma Court, Copperopolis, was booked after an arrest at Sonora Regional Medical Center. 


The Sheriff’s Office reported the following:


9:04 a.m., Angels Camp — Theft was reported at Big Oak Campground. 

9:15 a.m., Valley Springs — A 24-year-old man was arrested on the 200 block of Sequoia Way on a felony warrant for possession of drugs.

1:01 p.m., Arnold — Items were stolen from a business on the 1300 block of Oak Circle.

7:30 p.m., Angels Camp — Someone was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds.

8:04 p.m., Copperopolis — A fence to a property on O’Byrnes Ferry Road was cut and a trailer was stolen.

8:31 p.m., Angels Camp — Someone was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. 


2:21 p.m., Valley Springs — Theft was reported on Happy Jack Court.

6:46 p.m., Mountain Ranch — A fight was reported on Baker Riley Way. 

11:23 p.m., Murphys — Public intoxication was reported at a gas station on the 100 block of Highway 4.

Felony bookings


7:39 a.m., Copperopolis — Jerry Leon Harmon, 54, of the 800 block of Surrey Road, was booked on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a felon and a misdemeanor charge of battery after an arrest at his home.

11:05 a.m., Valley Springs — Andrew Scott Wathen, 28, of the 800 block of Harney Lane, Lodi, was booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm after an arrest at New Hogan Lake Observation Point.

9:42 p.m., Murphys — Michael Allery Weist Jr., 32, of the 500 block of Williams Street, was booked on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun and altering a firearm identification mark after an arrest at his home.


9:40 a.m., San Andreas — Preston Johnathan Ray Hackett, 18, of the 2200 block of Grouse Drive, Valley Springs, was booked on suspicion of second degree burglary after an arrest at the Calaveras County Courthouse.
