Sheriff's report


6:37 a.m., Tuolumne — A caller said a vehicle was parked at the end of Stag Circle with the engine running and the windows fogged over.

7:34 a.m., Tuolumne — A Black Oak Casino security officer said a woman was outside the casino yelling at passing vehicles.

7:44 a.m., Jamestown — A woman called the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Community Service Unit to report that a suspicious-looking man with a black moustache and a hooded jacket was on Willow Street.

9:27 a.m., Twain Harte — A man on the 23000 block of Tanager Drive said his house and vehicle were hit with paintballs overnight.

9:49 a.m., East Sonora — A woman on the 19000 block of Hess Avenue said someone got into her garage.

10:14 a.m., Twain Harte — A man on the 22000 block of Ponderosa Drive said truck was hit with paintballs.

10:50 a.m., Campo Seco Road area — A woman on the 11000 block of Ellinwood Acres Road said one of her checks was forged.

12:32 p.m., Campo Seco Road area — A woman found a purse by the side of Campo Seco Road and turned it over to the sheriff's department.

1:10 p.m., Jamestown — A man turned in a backpack at the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Community Service Unit on Main Street.

4:06 p.m., Twain Harte — A man on the 19000 block of Westview Drive said trees were cut down on his property without his permission.

5:39 p.m., Groveland — A caller on the 20000 block of Crescent Way said a neighbor threatened the caller's dog.

9:40 p.m., Jamestown — A man said a man has been harassing him all day by loitering around his house on the 18100 block of Main Street and staring at him.

3:35 p.m., Jamestown — Garry Gene Smith, 43, 10500 block of Eighth Avenue, Jamestown, booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm after an arrest on Main and Willow streets, Jamestown. No details were available this morning from the sheriff's department.

Smith remained in custody this morning in lieu of $30,000 bail.

Sonora police reports


1:09 a.m., suspicious circumstances — A clerk at a gas station on the 300 block of South Washington Street said he was hit in the head by what he believes was a marble.

5:39 a.m., suspicious circumstances — An officer checked on an open door to a building on the 1000 block of Mono Way.

9:24 a.m., vandalism — An employee at Central California Bank on the 200 block of South Washington Street said a marble was fired through a window of the business.

11:15 a.m., suspicious circumstances — A woman who was sitting for some time in the parking lot of a business on the 100 block of South Washington Street was asked to leave.

11:38 a.m., fraudulent activity — An employee at J.S. West and Symons on the 700 block of South Washington Street said someone passed a fake traveler's check.

3:40 p.m., theft — A woman said someone stole her purse out of a shopping cart about 10:45 a.m. at a business on the 1000 block of Mono Way.

5:46 p.m., reckless driving — A driver in an older blue pickup ran a stoplight downtown and passed vehicle on the right. The driver was last seen headed east on Highway 108.

7:50 p.m., warrant arrest — A 20-year-old man was arrested on a Tuolumne County misdemeanor warrant following a traffic stop on Sanguinetti Road.

9:49 p.m., vandalism — An unknown caller on the 300 block of South Washington Street said someone shot a rock or bullet through a window of World Savings on the 200 block of South Washington Street. An officer determined a glass marble was fired, likely with a slingshot.

10:01 p.m., traffic accident — A non-injury crash was reported on the 60 block of Dossi Way. A driver crashed into a fence.

9:06 a.m., San Andreas — A caller said the lobby of Cal Works building on the 500 block of East St. Charles Street was vandalized.

5:09 p.m., Copperopolis — A Payless Market employee detained a possible shoplifter at the store on the 3500 block of Spangler Lane.

5:15 p.m., Valley Springs area — A caller on the 1000 block of Mockingbird Hill said a dog was bitten by a neighbor's dog.

10:39 p.m., Valley Springs — The owner of pitbull dogs was cited after a woman on the 8400 block of O'Reilly Street said the dogs chased her and her family.

1:33 p.m., San Andreas — Christopher Douglas Merrill, 44, 200 block of North California Street, San Andreas, booked on suspicion of contempt of court and violating a restraining order by stalking after arrest at his home. He remained in custody this morning in lieu of $30,000 bail.
