Woman dies from accident injuries

By AMY LINDBLOM

A Jupiter woman injured Oct. 6 when the motorcycle she was riding on collided with an SUV on Stockton Road died Wednesday night from her injuries.

Shortly after the 4:30 p.m. accident, Sherry Aguilar, 40, was taken by air ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major head trauma. A Stanislaus County coroner's spokeswoman said the preliminary report shows the cause of death is head injuries.

Sonora Police Lt. Patrick Tonegato said the accident remains under investigation and it is not clear if Sherry Aguilar and her husband, Anthony, the motorcycle's driver, were wearing helmets.

"His helmet was on the handle bar when we got there and we are not sure if she flew over the handle bars and took his helmet off, or what," Tonegato said this morning.

When paramedics arrived, Sherry Aguilar's helmet was on the ground.

Tonegato said officers have interviewed several people about the accident but no one actually saw what happened.

"We are still hoping witnesses will come forward to help out the investigation," he said.

Sherry and Anthony Aquilar were thrown from their 1992 Harley Davidson motorcycle after colliding with a 1999 Dodge Durango driven by Amber Martin, 25, of Tuolumne, Sonora Police Officer John Mager said.

Right after the accident, Martin told Sonora police that she was stopped at a stop sign on Bradford Street, waiting to make a left turn onto eastbound Stockton Road, and she saw a white pickup truck pass her.

When she saw no other vehicles, she pulled out. Martin told Mager she never saw the motorcycle until the collision.

Neither she nor her 1-year-old son were injured.

Meanwhile, Anthony Aguilar, 41, remained in stable condition at Doctors Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning.

Mager said Anthony Aguilar's legs were pinned under the motorcycle at an awkward angle and he was screaming in pain when paramedics arrived.

He, too, was flown to Modesto by air ambulance.
