Woman, 54, surrenders in connection with fatal accident

California Highway Patrol announced in a news release Thursday afternoon that a Valley Springs woman has "turned herself in" at the agency's San Andreas Office in connection with a hit-and-run accident Wednesday on Highway 49 that killed a 57-year-old motorcyclist just outside of San Andreas.

Connie Ann Day, 54, was subsequently arrested and booked into Calaveras County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.

Authorities alleged that the driver of a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup driving north on Highway 49 at around 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, suddenly turned left to continue on Angels Road directly into the path of oncoming southbound motorcyclist Charles Bray, 57, of Cashmere, Wash.

Bray lost control and was ejected from his motorcycle in an attempt to avoid a collision and suffered fatal injuries as a result, according to CHP reports.

CHP stated in the news release that Day surrendered "because of the press this collision has recieved from the local media."
